Department Introduction The Department of Ultrasound Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University integrates medical care, teaching, and research. It is a key clinical specialty in Anhui Province, an authorized doctoral/master's degree site in ultrasound, a National Standardized Resident Physician Training Base, a Training Base for the National Talent Training Program for the Prevention and Treatment of Birth Defects, the China Interventional Ultrasound Training Base, the China Obstetric and Gynecologic Ultrasound Training Base, and the Thousand Counties Project-National County Hospital Ultrasound Medicine Training Base. The department currently has 85 physicians, 1 doctoral supervisor, 6 master's supervisors, and 12 physicians with doctoral degrees; among them are 4 chief physicians, 16 deputy chief physicians, 1 Jianghuai Famous Physician, and 1 person receiving a special allowance from the provincial government. Advantages Each year, approximately 800,000-plus patient visits for ultrasound diagnosis and treatment are provided. The department has established an ultrasound diagnosis and treatment platform with comprehensive subspecialties and distinctive features. Its featured technologies include: interventional ultrasound, prenatal diagnostic ultrasound, thyroid and breast ultrasound, musculoskeletal ultrasound, 3D ultrasound of the pelvic floor and uterine cavity, reproductive ultrasound, IBD and gastrointestinal ultrasound, pediatric ultrasound, etc. Department Honors 1. Clinical aspects: the chairing institution of the Ultrasound Branch of the Provincial Medical Doctors Association and the Ultrasound Medicine Specialty Alliance (medical consortium), and the designated incoming chairing institution of the Ultrasound Branch of the Provincial Medical Association; it has been consecutively nominated in the Fudan Medical Ranking-East China Regional Specialty Reputation Ranking (No. 1 in Anhui Province), and ranked 63rd nationwide in the ultrasound specialty of Hospital Discipline STEM (the only entrant from Anhui Province); it participated in the compilation of 5 clinical guidelines and consensuses; and it has received honorary titles including “Provincial Worker Pioneer”, “Advanced Primary-level Party Organization”, and “Advanced Collective”. 2. Scientific research aspects: in recent years, it has led or participated in more than 10 national- and provincial/ministerial-level projects, received 2 Anhui Provincial Science and Technology Awards, obtained 4 invention patents, and published more than 20 SCI papers annually. 3. Teaching aspects: each year, it trains nearly 10 doctoral and master's students, more than 10 standardized resident physicians, and more than 100 undergraduates. Teams and individuals have successively received national and provincial teaching honors including “First Prize for Teams in the Second Anhui Provincial Ultrasound Medicine Skills Competition”, “First Prize in the Anhui Provincial Ultrasound Skills Competition for Comprehensive Prevention and Control of Birth Defects”, “Second Prize Third Prize in the Anhui Provincial Ultrasound Medicine Standardized Resident Training Young Physician Teaching Competition”, “National Outstanding Instructor for Standardized Resident Training”, and “National Outstanding Director of a Standardized Resident Physician Training Base”, etc.
