Lymphoma and Head and Neck Tumor Department
The Department of Lymphoma and Head and Neck Tumors of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University was established in April 2013. On April 29, 2017, it jointly established the Lymphoma and Myeloma Diagnosis and Treatment Center with the hospital’s Department of Hematology II. Relying on the platform of Medical Oncology as a National Key Specialty, and after years of effort, the department has built an excellent specialized diagnostic and treatment team for lymphoma and head and neck tumors. Focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of lymphoma and head and neck tumors, and combining the concepts of multidisciplinary collaboration and whole-course management, we provide comprehensive support for every patient with lymphoma or a head and neck tumor.
The department’s medical team currently comprises 2 chief physicians, 3 deputy chief physicians, and 2 attending physicians, including 3 supervisors of master’s students. Several members of the department have undertaken advanced training and study at the MD Anderson Lymphoma and Myeloma Diagnosis and Treatment Center in the United States, the Affiliated Hospital of the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Research Center affiliated with Harvard University in the United States, among other world-leading hospitals, and have conducted related research. Department personnel undertake multiple national-level and provincial/municipal-level research projects and have published numerous high-quality papers. They have begun to make their mark in the treatment of lymphoma and head and neck tumors at both the national and provincial levels, while also establishing good cooperative relationships with renowned experts and hospitals in this field in China and abroad. This enables us to provide remote consultation services and spare patients the hardship of traveling.
The department’s nursing team currently has 12 nurses, including 1 deputy chief nurse, 5 charge nurses, and 4 nurses; 1 holds a master’s degree, 2 are currently pursuing master’s degrees, 7 have bachelor’s degrees, and 2 have experience undertaking advanced training at well-known hospitals in China. In line with the specialty’s characteristics, the team provides symptom management, PICC puncture techniques, pain nursing, acupoint application, aromatherapy, and other nursing techniques to reduce treatment-related adverse reactions, while assisting the medical team with the whole-course management of lymphoma diagnosis and treatment.
The department currently has 27 open beds, including 2 laminar-flow beds, and can independently provide standardized diagnosis and treatment for lymphoma and head and neck tumors, including chemotherapy, molecular targeted therapy, immunotherapy, CAR-T cell therapy, and other advanced treatment methods used in China and abroad. The department has formed a strong MDT team comprising Pathology, the Flow Cytometry Diagnostic Center, Imaging, Radiation Oncology, Surgery, Hematology, ICU, Cardiology, Neurology, and the Pharmacy Department. The team provides precision diagnosis and treatment and develops individualized diagnostic and treatment plans for complex and severe cases, contributing positively to improved patient prognosis.
The conduct of drug clinical trials reflects the comprehensive strength of a hospital and its departments. In recent years, our department has undertaken more than 30 clinical trial projects for new lymphoma drugs. In the past nearly 5 years, more than 100 patients have been enrolled, placing us at the forefront in Liaoning Province and among the leading institutions in China. This enables patients in our department to receive the most advanced treatment methods available in China and abroad free of charge, prolonging survival, reducing their financial burden, and providing tangible benefits to patients.
Through wind and rain, we stand together and move forward side by side. We will uphold the spirit of the hospital motto, “Revere virtue and esteem medicine,” and use superb technology and warm-hearted service to protect our patients’ lives and health!
