Emergency Ward
The Emergency Ward was established in 2007. Adhering to the concept of combining traditional medicine and modern medicine, and keeping pace with the times, it now possesses a complete modern emergency medical service system (EMSS) of “pre-hospital emergency care—emergency rescue—critical illness treatment,” with coverage extending throughout the entire southern Liaoning region. After more than ten years of development and innovation, the Emergency Ward has been built into a comprehensive ward primarily focused on the treatment of critical illnesses, geriatric diseases, and multisystem diseases, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of difficult and complicated diseases. It admits more than 1,400 patients annually and has become an important component of the Department of Emergency Medicine of our hospital.
The Emergency Ward currently has 32 authorized beds, 1 resuscitation cart, 1 Philips ventilator, 1 Mindray BeneHeart D3 defibrillator, 1 American GE MAC 2000 electrocardiograph, more than 20 multiparameter monitors and micro-injection pumps, and dozens of types of emergency medications in reserve. There are 23 medical and nursing staff members, including 7 physicians, all with graduate-level or higher education, including 1 doctor, 2 chief physicians, 2 associate chief physicians, and 3 attending physicians; and 16 nurses, all with undergraduate-level or higher education, including 1 associate chief nurse and 5 charge nurses. The department also undertakes the important teaching task of training emergency medical and nursing personnel for areas both within and outside the province and the surrounding areas of southern Liaoning.
The Emergency Ward is an important symbol of our hospital’s development from a single outpatient and emergency department into a comprehensive emergency medical center. The diseases treated include various specialty emergencies such as severe heart failure, respiratory failure, gastrointestinal bleeding, hepatic encephalopathy, diabetic ketoacidosis, acute cerebral infarction, and severe infection and sepsis, as well as various types of multiple trauma, combined injuries, fever of unknown origin, dyspnea, thoracic and abdominal pain, edema, and other difficult and complicated diseases requiring multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaborative treatment. The average age of patients is over 65 years, and most simultaneously have multiple organ dysfunction. Since specialty wards have difficulty admitting them, the Emergency Ward implements a characteristic treatment and rescue plan featuring comprehensive general medical treatment, which not only improves the cure rate of such patients, but also solves the difficulty of hospitalization for this group of patients, becoming the strong backing of the emergency center. For the treatment of poisoning, heatstroke, drowning, electrical injuries, and other diseases, emergency medicine, relying on decades of treatment and rescue experience, has a complete and detailed treatment and rescue plan for the department, continuously incorporating new medicine and new ideas, and has broad influence in the southern Liaoning region.
As an important component of our hospital’s emergency medical system, the Emergency Ward also undertakes the task of receiving patients transferred out of the emergency ICU, enabling critically ill patients to transition smoothly toward discharge and reflecting the completeness and systematic nature of our hospital’s emergency treatment.
