Endocrinology Department II
Department 2 of Endocrinology at the Second Hospital of Dalian Medical University is a comprehensive endocrinology department integrating medical care, scientific research, and teaching, with thyroid diseases and growth and developmental disorders as its distinctive research areas. It currently has 27 authorized beds. All physicians hold master's or doctoral degrees, and all have undertaken further training at national key disciplines and institutions, including Peking Union Medical College Hospital, the General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army, and China Medical University. They have mastered the latest advances in their specialty, follow diagnostic and treatment guidelines recognized by the international endocrinology community, and, in accordance with the principles of evidence-based medicine, provide standardized, individualized, and specialized diagnosis and treatment for patients with endocrine diseases.
In 2013, the department was the first in Dalian to establish a specialized outpatient clinic for thyroid diseases. In areas such as hyperthyroidism-associated exophthalmos, differentiation between benign and malignant thyroid nodules, thyroid nodule ablation, postoperative dual-risk assessment and diagnosis and treatment of thyroid cancer, and pregnancy associated with thyroid diseases, among others, it is at the forefront of thyroid disease care in southern Liaoning. For growth and developmental disorders such as short stature, disorders of sexual development, and precocious puberty, it provides standardized diagnosis and treatment throughout the life course of these conditions, ensuring achievement of the expected final height, meeting needs related to marriage and childbearing, and maintaining quality of life. Guided by the principle of “strengthening distinctive diseases, consolidating common diseases, and focusing primarily on difficult, severe, and critical diseases,” and on the basis of early diagnosis and targeted treatment of common endocrine diseases, such as diagnosis and treatment of type 1 diabetes with an insulin pump and early reversal of type 2 diabetes, prevalent diseases, including diabetes, osteoporosis, and gout, and acute and critical endocrine conditions, including diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic hyperosmolar coma, adrenal crisis, pituitary crisis, thyroid storm, and hypercalcemic crisis, the department conducts standardized dynamic endocrine function tests and provides diagnosis and treatment for difficult endocrine diseases, such as precocious puberty, short stature, Noonan syndrome, primary aldosteronism, pheochromocytoma, pituitary tumors, acromegaly, and gonadal diseases.
In scientific research, Department 2 of Endocrinology has undertaken multiple provincial, municipal, and national scientific research projects, as well as clinical trial studies of new drugs. Many research findings have been published in first-class, high-quality journals in China and abroad. In teaching, the department is responsible for training doctoral and master's graduate students specializing in endocrinology.
