Puwan Campus Cardiovascular Medicine Department

The Department of Cardiology of the Second Hospital of Dalian Medical University was established in the 1960s. The discipline has continued to forge ahead and unite its efforts, and the department has steadily expanded in scale. It has established a cardiovascular medicine system at the Xinghai, Diamond Bay, and Puwan campuses, and has successively developed multiple subspecialties. It has successfully applied for designation as a National Key Clinical Specialty, and each subspecialty has mastered multiple sophisticated and cutting-edge technologies. The department currently has 50 established physicians, including 14 chief physicians, 9 associate chief physicians, and 18 attending physicians; 24 hold doctoral degrees or are currently pursuing doctoral degrees, while all the others hold master's degrees, and there are 2 doctoral supervisors. The Department of Cardiology at the Puwan Campus carries on the fine traditions of the Department of Cardiology of the Second Hospital of Dalian Medical University. All experts providing outpatient services are department directors and key members from the department at the Xinghai Campus of the Second Hospital of Dalian Medical University. The department has 44 open beds, with 16 CCU beds and 28 general beds planned. It is equipped with top domestic medical devices and instruments, including intravascular ultrasound, intracardiac echocardiography, a U.S.-made intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), defibrillators, temporary pacemakers, a computer-based automatic synchronized analysis 18-lead electrocardiograph, a three-dimensional electrophysiological mapping system, a multichannel electrophysiological recording system, radiofrequency ablation and cryoablation equipment, and others. The Department of Cardiology at the Puwan Campus performs the same types of surgical procedures and techniques as the Second Hospital of Dalian Medical University. The department's scope of diagnosis and treatment mainly includes the diagnosis and treatment of various cardiovascular diseases and the rescue of acute, critical, and severe cases. The interventional treatment team at the Puwan Campus routinely performs interventional treatment for coronary heart disease, arrhythmias, and structural heart disease, using advanced intracoronary imaging technologies to guide precise coronary treatment and interventional treatment of complex lesions. Treatment of arrhythmias is at an advanced domestic level, and the treatment scope includes all types of arrhythmias. Under the leadership of Director Zhao Xin and Director Zhang Shulong of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, various complex procedures for coronary heart disease and arrhythmias are performed, with multiple surgical techniques ranking at the leading level in Dalian and the advanced level nationally.
