Neurology Department 2
The Department of Neurology 2 of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University was formally established in June 2013.
The main diseases diagnosed and treated include cerebrovascular diseases (with a focus on intravenous thrombolysis in the acute phase of cerebral infarction, standardized etiological evaluation and individualized treatment of stroke, and the development of prevention strategies), common diseases such as central nervous system infections including encephalitis, neuromuscular diseases such as myasthenia gravis, cognitive disorders such as dementia, and sleep disorders such as insomnia; as well as common syndromes such as vertigo, epilepsy, and headache.
The department currently has 32 authorized beds (including 2 in the Sleep Center) and 13 physicians (5 chief physicians, 2 deputy chief physicians, 5 attending physicians, and 1 resident physician), including 6 with doctoral degrees and 3 currently pursuing doctoral degrees; 1 doctoral supervisor and 4 master's supervisors. It is currently undertaking multiple national- and provincial/municipal-level scientific research projects. Nearly 100 articles have been published in core Chinese journals, along with more than 30 SCI papers. The department has received the hospital's “Excellence Award for Comprehensive Target Management” and “Medical Quality, Safety and Service Award” multiple times.
The main specialized services of the Department of Neurology 2 at present are:
1. Sleep Center, currently with 4 specialized physicians. The center provides various assessment methods for sleep disorders, as well as pharmacological and physical therapies, offering comprehensive, meticulous, and individualized diagnosis and treatment for people experiencing sleep-related difficulties; a specialized outpatient clinic for sleep disorders has also been established.
2. Liaoning Provincial Epilepsy Center, currently with 2 specialized physicians. The center conducts long-term video electroencephalographic monitoring; standardized and individualized evaluation and medical diagnosis and treatment for symptomatic epilepsy, idiopathic epilepsy, and status epilepticus; and techniques for the evaluation of epilepsy surgery, among others. A specialized outpatient clinic for epilepsy has also been established.
3. Dalian Myasthenia Gravis Center, currently with 3 specialized physicians. In collaboration with the Departments of Radiology, Thoracic Surgery, Nuclear Medicine, Ophthalmology, and other departments, the center has established a “Myasthenia Gravis Multidisciplinary Diagnosis and Treatment (MDT) Team.” It provides standardized and individualized diagnosis and treatment for patients with myasthenia gravis, carries out botulinum toxin treatment, and has established a specialized outpatient clinic for peripheral nerve and myopathy disorders.
4. In collaboration with the Departments of Otorhinolaryngology, Radiology, and other departments, a “Multidisciplinary Diagnosis and Treatment (MDT) Team for Vertigo” has been established, currently with 2 specialized physicians. The team conducts standardized diagnosis and treatment for central vertigo, peripheral vestibular vertigo, vertigo induced by psychological factors, and other conditions, and has established a specialized outpatient clinic for vertigo.
5. In collaboration with the Departments of Cardiology, Radiology, and other departments, a “Multidisciplinary Diagnosis and Treatment (MDT) Team for Cardioembolic Stroke with Patent Foramen Ovale and Migraine” has been established, currently with 3 specialized physicians. The team actively conducts screening for patent foramen ovale, improves the diagnosis and treatment of cardioembolic stroke, and improves the prognosis of migraine.
6. The hospital is an “Advanced Stroke Center” certified by the National Health Commission Brain Prevention and Treatment Committee, currently with dozens of specialized physicians. By integrating the advantageous resources of multiple disciplines, it has created a “one-stop” emergency treatment platform to provide intravenous thrombolysis, formulate “tailor-made” standardized strategies for the diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular diseases and individualized prevention plans for the majority of patients, and establish a health manager screening/follow-up outpatient clinic.
7. Memory disorders, currently with 2 specialized physicians. The department conducts neuropsychological screening and imaging examinations for the early diagnosis and differential diagnosis of patients with cognitive disorders and dementia, as well as remote consultation and cognitive rehabilitation; it also provides standardized and individualized treatment for cognitive disorders and dementia and has established a specialized outpatient clinic for memory and cognitive disorders.
8. Central nervous system infectious and immune-mediated diseases, currently with 2 specialized physicians. The department provides individualized diagnostic and assessment methods for patients with infectious encephalitis, autoimmune encephalitis, and other conditions, and formulates targeted treatment and relapse-prevention plans.
The Department of Neurology 2 will always uphold the spirit of sharing the hospital's breath and destiny, continue to innovate and develop, and contribute to the development of Healthy China and a harmonious society.
