Puwan Campus Anesthesiology Department

The Department of Anesthesiology of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University was established in 1949. Through the efforts of several generations, it has developed into a comprehensive clinical secondary discipline spanning multiple subspecialty fields. It is a standardized residency training base in Liaoning Province and an authorized site for awarding master’s and doctoral degrees in anesthesiology. The department currently has 51 physicians, including 9 chief physicians, 12 deputy chief physicians, and 24 attending physicians, as well as 26 anesthesia nurses; it also has 1 doctoral supervisor and 9 master’s supervisors.

The Department of Anesthesiology at Puwan Campus is affiliated with the main hospital, and its medical, technical, and nursing teams coordinate with the main hospital for diagnosis and treatment. The department currently has 25 operating rooms, which can be opened and operated simultaneously to provide high-quality, safe clinical anesthesia services. Its anesthesia equipment is at a leading current level. It has more than 100 pieces of equipment and instruments, including Dräger anesthesia machines, Mindray anesthesia machines, Mindray multiparameter invasive monitors, GE monitors, cardiopulmonary bypass machines, and more. These can support operations including general surgery, cardiac surgery, urology, gynecology, thoracic surgery, liver transplantation, and kidney transplantation. At the same time, the department actively promotes and provides anesthesia for day surgeries, including procedures for appendicitis and cholecystitis and short minor urological procedures, thereby improving the patient treatment rate and accelerating inpatient bed turnover.

The department leads comfort-oriented care and works with multiple hospital departments to provide comfort-focused anesthesia, including anesthesia for painless gastrointestinal endoscopy, painless fiberoptic bronchoscopy, painless bronchial tumor treatment, and painless induced abortion. In collaboration with the CT unit, it performs painless CT-guided radiofrequency ablation of lung cancer; in collaboration with the Ultrasound Department, it performs painless transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation, and other procedures. In addition, to spare expectant mothers the ordeal of pain and reduce fear of childbirth and postpartum fatigue, the department will introduce labor analgesia at Puwan Campus, bringing an important benefit to women giving birth.

In response to the hospital’s call, the department is working to build a pain-free hospital, establish a pain management team (APS), and provide perioperative pain management. It offers all hospital patients 24-hour, on-call postoperative pain management and labor analgesia management.

The Department of Anesthesiology at Puwan Campus has made comfort-oriented care, visualization-assisted anesthesia, and precision anesthesia its development and research priorities, and is working to provide safe, pain-free, comfortable services to the people of northern Dalian and to the people of Liaoning Province as a whole.
