Puwan Campus Neurology Department
The Department of Neurology of the Second Hospital of Dalian Medical University was established in 1969. It is a first-level key discipline in Dalian. In 2006, interventional treatment of cerebrovascular diseases was designated a key specialty project of Liaoning Province. In 2017, it was awarded the title of “Advanced Stroke Center” certified by the National Stroke Prevention and Treatment Committee. In 2018, it was granted plaques designating it as a “Member Unit of the Neurological Diseases Specialty Alliance of Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University” and a “Member Unit of the Neurointervention Alliance of Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University.” It has now developed a model featuring the comprehensive development of multiple subspecialties, including cerebrovascular diseases, episodic disorders (such as epilepsy), neurodegenerative diseases (such as Alzheimer’s disease and motor neuron disease), and movement disorders (such as Parkinson’s disease). Its level of diagnosis and treatment for various diseases of the nervous system ranks among the leading levels in Liaoning Province. The Neurology Department currently has 32 staff physicians, including 14 chief physicians and 7 attending physicians; 16 hold doctoral degrees and 16 hold master’s degrees, including 2 doctoral supervisors and 10 master’s supervisors.
Neurologists from the heads/deputy heads and professors of the subspecialties of the Neurology Department at the main hospital provide outpatient consultations and ward rounds at fixed times every week at the Puwan Campus Neurology Department, offering patients with nervous-system diseases in northern Dalian more systematic and precise diagnosis and treatment. The department currently has 20 beds and is equipped with top-tier domestic specialized neurological medical equipment, including electroencephalography and transcranial color-coded Doppler (TCD).
The treatment scope of the Puwan Campus Neurology Department mainly includes the diagnosis and treatment of various common and difficult-to-diagnose neurological diseases, as well as acute, critical, and severe conditions. Under the leadership of Professor Lin Yongzhong, Director of the Dalian Stroke Quality Control Center, the department integrates advantageous multidisciplinary resources, establishes a green emergency channel for stroke and a standardized stroke unit, carries out appropriate technologies such as intravenous thrombolysis, and operates a stroke screening/follow-up clinic; it implements homogeneous management with the Neurology Department of the main hospital. The department’s level of diagnosis and treatment for neurological diseases is leading in Dalian and advanced nationally. The department has long maintained good collaborative relationships with first-class universities in China and abroad.
