Bone and Soft Tissue Repair and Reconstruction Surgery Department
To keep pace with the development of the times and meet patients’ needs, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University was the first in the three northeastern provinces of China to establish a Department of Bone and Soft-Tissue Repair and Reconstructive Surgery. With the mission of “repairing defects, restoring function, and aesthetic reconstruction,” the department is a comprehensive clinical unit integrating clinical care, scientific research, and teaching. The department currently has 32 beds and 16 medical and nursing staff members, including one chief physician, one associate chief physician, two attending physicians, and three resident physicians; all hold medical master’s degrees or higher, and all key members of the team have experience of advanced training and study both in China and overseas. It also maintains close cooperative relationships with internationally and domestically renowned trauma repair centers, has established a China–Korea Foot and Ankle Center, and has mastered advanced domestic technical concepts and methods.
It possesses the most advanced InSight mini dynamic C-arm orthopedic imaging system in the three northeastern provinces, the only ultra-fine, low-dose fluoroscopic imaging system in the world: it is flexible, involves low radiation, and can clearly display minute osseous and articular structures of the hand (wrist) and foot (ankle), ensuring visualization of outcomes during small-joint surgery; it possesses Arthrex wrist and ankle arthroscopy equipment and technology, enabling minimally invasive treatment of common wrist and ankle diseases and injuries; it uses an ultrasonic debridement instrument to irrigate and treat chronic, refractory wounds; it is also equipped with advanced devices, including a Carl Zeiss operating microscope, a Doppler vascular detector, an electromyograph, and a Zimmer electric dermatome from the United States, as well as various precision microsurgical instruments. It is currently a reconstructive surgery department with advanced equipment and technology.
The Bone and Soft-Tissue Repair and Reconstructive Surgery Department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University uses microsurgical techniques as its tradition and distinctive specialty and mainly provides: 1. Surgical and conservative treatment of traumatic diseases of the extremities: trauma and deformities of the hand, foot, and ankle accompanied by nerve and vascular injuries; joint mobility disorders, pain, and other conditions caused by trauma or disease. 2. Reduction and correction of limb fractures and deformities. For example: minimally invasive treatment of hallux valgus, pes cavus, flatfoot, and other conditions. 3. Treatment of osteomyelitis, nonunion, failure of bone healing, bone defects, and exposed bone using the Ilizarov technique. 4. Repair and reconstruction of soft-tissue defects caused by trauma and diseases, including pressure sores, lower-extremity arteriosclerotic obliterative disease, diabetic foot, and others, as well as reconstruction of superficial organs. 5. Minimally invasive arthroscopic treatment of diseases and injuries of small joints such as those of the hand, foot, and ankle. 6. Limb dysfunction and sensory abnormalities caused by peripheral nerve entrapment and nerve injuries. 7. Radical excision of bone and soft-tissue tumors and postoperative functional reconstruction, among other treatments.
