Hernia and Colorectal Surgery
The hernia and colorectal surgery department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University combines care, teaching and research. It forms part of general surgery, a national key clinical specialty project and a Liaoning key discipline, and is the Dalian diagnosis and treatment subcenter of the National Hernia Research Center. It provides individualized, standardized and minimally invasive care for colorectal tumors and hernia or abdominal wall disease. The ward treats colon and rectal cancers, colorectal stromal tumors, incisional, parastomal and hiatal hernias and other conditions. Minimally invasive colorectal and hernia surgery is a specialty, using da Vinci robotic assistance and laparoscopy. The team includes three chief or associate chief physicians, two attending physicians, two residents and three master's supervisors. Most doctors have a doctorate or are pursuing one and have studied abroad, including at Mayo Clinic, Stanford University or the University of Tokyo. The department reports nearly 1,000 general surgery operations yearly, mainly gastrointestinal tumors and hernias, and teaches graduate, undergraduate, seven-year and international medical students. General surgery clinic schedules listed by the hospital are: Professor Chen Xin on Monday, Associate Professor Zhang Fan on Tuesday, Professor Yang Xingwu on Wednesday, attending physician Ren Yanying on Thursday and attending physician Shao Shuai on Friday, each all day.
