Breast Surgery
The Department of Breast Surgery of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University originated as the Department of General Surgery of the Second Hospital of Dalian Medical University, established in 1958 by Professor Chen Rongdian, a nationally renowned expert in general surgery. In 1969, when the hospital as a whole moved south to Zunyi, the Department of General Surgery of the Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical College was established; in 1986, it moved back to Dalian. After continuous development and expansion, it became a key specialty of Liaoning Province and Dalian City in 2008.
Through the dedicated work of Professor Zhao Shangda and other senior surgical experts, and under the leadership and assistance of Professor Zhao Zuowei, our hospital’s Department of Breast Surgery refined its subspecialties in 2013, and the Department of Breast Surgery was born thereafter. Professor Liu Caigang served as the department’s first director; Professor Zhao Haidong is the current director. Under Director Zhao’s guidance, the central role of breast surgery gradually took shape in Dalian and throughout southern Liaoning, and the Center for Breast Diseases and Reconstruction (hereinafter referred to as “the Center”) was established. After nearly 10 years of effort, the Department of Breast Surgery is now a National Clinical Key Specialty, a Clinical Training Base for Breast Diseases of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, a Key Laboratory of Clinical Translational Research on Breast Tumors of Liaoning Province, a Key Discipline of Liaoning Province, a Clinical Key Specialty of Liaoning Province, a Key Laboratory of Breast Cancer Tumors of Dalian City, and a First-Level Key Medical Discipline of Dalian City.
