Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
The cardiac surgery team includes adult and pediatric cardiovascular surgeons, cardiovascular surgical ICU physicians, cardiopulmonary bypass perfusionists and nurses. The hospital reports operations spanning almost all cardiovascular disease categories: off-pump beating-heart coronary bypass; minimally invasive endoscopic vessel harvesting and robot-assisted minimally invasive bypass; repair and replacement for ischemic mitral regurgitation; minimally invasive valve repair and replacement; transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI); modified maze surgery for atrial fibrillation; minimally invasive congenital heart surgery; complete repair of tetralogy of Fallot; correction of anomalous pulmonary venous drainage; pulmonary valve repair and pulmonary artery replacement; cardiac tumor resection; aortic root procedures including Bentall and Wheat's; ascending and total arch replacement and hybrid procedures including endovascular aortic exclusion; thoracoabdominal aortic replacement; closure of atrial and ventricular septal defects and patent ductus arteriosus; and minimally invasive cardiac tumor resection. The hospital states that treated patients range from four-month-old infants to people over 90 and that the overall surgical success rate exceeds 99%. The team reports using perioperative cardiac care techniques including noninvasive ventilation for heart failure, cerebral oxygen saturation monitoring in critically ill patients, Swan–Ganz balloon-tipped pulmonary artery catheterization, cardiac pacing, percutaneous intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation (IABP), ECMO placement, autologous blood separation and recovery, flexible bronchoscopy, continuous renal replacement therapy, and enteral and parenteral nutritional support.
