Diamond Bay Campus General Surgery Ward
The Department of General Surgery of the Diamond Bay Campus of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University is one of the longest-established, most widely disease-covering, and most important disciplines at our campus. Through the unremitting efforts of several generations of medical professionals, it has accumulated extensive clinical experience and cured countless critical, complex, and difficult diseases. Especially in recent years, supported by a large number of advanced instruments and equipment as well as advanced treatment methods and concepts, the department has centered its practice on endoscopic treatment, taken minimally invasive treatment as its development direction, and vigorously developed its specialized features, bringing new progress to general surgery. The diagnosis and treatment of diseases across multiple subspecialties have reached an advanced domestic level, and its surgical and treatment concepts have remained synchronized with the domestic cutting-edge level. The Department of General Surgery currently has 23 beds and 6 doctors, including 3 chief physicians and 3 attending physicians; 1 doctor holds a doctoral degree and 3 hold master's degrees. There are 9 nursing staff members. Guided by the advanced concept of integrated medical and nursing diagnosis and treatment, the department has for many years excellently completed the diagnosis and treatment of common and frequently occurring general-surgery diseases, as well as difficult radical operations for thyroid cancer, breast cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, cancer of the head of the pancreas, and other conditions.
Specialty features of the inguinal hernia service: synchronized with the level of authoritative hospitals in China. Day surgeries for inguinal hernia are routinely performed, including ultrasound-guided transversus abdominis fascia nerve block with small-incision tension-free inguinal hernia repair, small-intestinal resection and anastomosis for incarcerated hernia with intestinal necrosis under local anesthesia, and laparoscopic TAPP repair of unilateral and bilateral inguinal hernias.
Specialty features of the anorectal service: surgical treatment of diseases around the anus has reached an advanced domestic level. These include minimally invasive RPH and TST techniques for internal, external, and mixed hemorrhoids; minimally invasive small-incision excision of anal fissures combined with sphincter release; minimally invasive surgery for complex high anal fistulas involving segmented fistula-tract excision and counter-opening drainage; perianal nerve transection for pruritus ani; fully automatic stapled ligation for rectal prolapse and internal rectal mucosal prolapse; and minimally invasive treatment of outlet-obstruction constipation, such as rectocele.
Specialty features of the thyroid and breast service: routinely performing vacuum-assisted rotary-cut minimally invasive surgery for breast nodules and fine-needle aspiration biopsy of thyroid and breast nodules. Radical thyroid cancer surgery plus cervical lymph-node dissection is routinely completed. Regarding treatment concepts for breast cancer, the department remains synchronized with the domestic cutting-edge level and routinely performs sentinel lymph-node biopsy for breast cancer, breast-conserving surgery, and stage I breast reconstruction with prosthesis implantation for breast cancer using an invisible natural-cavity approach, thereby establishing strong confidence in life for every patient and providing the best possible quality of life.
Specialty features of minimally invasive treatment: laparoscopic surgery is comprehensively performed, routinely including single-port laparoscopic appendectomy, laparoscopic fenestration of hepatic cysts, laparoscopic repair of perforations in the upper gastrointestinal tract, laparoscopic hernia repair, laparoscopic surgery for gastrointestinal stromal tumors, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, dual-endoscope combined surgery (laparoscopy + choledochoscopy) comprising cholecystectomy and common bile duct incision with stone extraction, and minimally invasive operations such as laparoscopic radical surgery for gastric cancer and colorectal cancer. Microwave ablation is widely used in the treatment of liver cancer, thyroid nodules, lower-extremity varicose veins, and other diseases, achieving no incision, no pain, rapid recovery, and satisfactory efficacy. For acute abdominal conditions that previously required surgery, such as acute severe cholangitis, liver abscess, obstructive jaundice, and acute severe hemorrhagic necrotizing pancreatitis, open surgery is now unnecessary; minimally invasive treatment through puncture and drainage under the guidance of color Doppler ultrasound, CT, and other equipment has achieved extremely satisfactory results.
The Department of General Surgery at Diamond Bay upholds a people-oriented approach, puts patients at the center of everything, and uses the most advanced and mature treatment methods with the smallest possible trauma to relieve the suffering of the broad population of patients.
