Emergency Center
The Emergency Center of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University was established in 1987. It is a provincial key clinical specialty in Liaoning Province, a key medical specialty in Dalian, and the largest emergency trauma center in southern Liaoning. In 2021, it was approved as a project under Dalian’s “Climbing the Peak” program for key medical specialties. The Emergency Center receives more than 200,000 patient visits annually and has been designated as a national “Advanced Stroke Center” and a Liaoning Province “Chest Pain Center.” It is an important safeguard for the rescue of critically ill and severely injured patients, as well as a green channel for responding to public health emergencies and rescuing victims of disasters.
The Emergency Center operates as an integrated comprehensive emergency care system—a “large emergency department” integrating emergency consultation rooms, emergency resuscitation rooms, emergency observation rooms, emergency infusion rooms, and emergency auxiliary departments. It has more than ten independent consultation rooms, including internal medicine, surgery, neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, dermatology, and plastic surgery. The emergency resuscitation and observation rooms can accommodate more than 30 resuscitation beds simultaneously. The Emergency Center has established a visual connection with prehospital 120 ambulances, with real-time data sharing, ensuring that targeted emergency treatment preparations can begin before patients transported by 120 arrive at the hospital. The Emergency Center is equipped with advanced medical devices, including ventilators, cardiopulmonary resuscitation machines, monitors, gastric lavage machines, defibrillators, electrocardiographs, cooling blankets, and wound irrigation machines, sufficient to meet the resuscitation needs of critically ill and severely injured patients. The pneumatic logistics transport system covering the Emergency Center and PACS information-network terminals can connect remotely with all auxiliary departments, providing timely and accurate data for disease diagnosis and gaining time to save lives. The emergency auxiliary area includes the emergency laboratory, emergency electrocardiography room, emergency X-ray, emergency CT, emergency ultrasound, emergency pharmacy, emergency cashier, emergency registration desk, and emergency admission office, along with other auxiliary departments established specifically for the Emergency Center. These departments are located on the same floor as the treatment areas and are closely interconnected. Rational workflows and layout shorten the emergency resuscitation radius, not only facilitating patient access to care but also greatly reducing the mortality rate of critically ill patients and improving the success rate of resuscitation.
The Emergency Center currently has a medical and nursing team of nearly 100 members. The team has a well-balanced age structure, outstanding professional expertise, and excellent emergency response capabilities. It includes 27 physicians, all with at least a master’s degree; 3 physicians with doctoral degrees, 3 chief physicians, and 11 associate chief physicians; as well as 59 nurses, including 1 chief nurse and 29 nurse supervisors. The Emergency Center integrates medical care, teaching, and research. It closely follows the latest clinical and scientific research developments, focuses on cultivating young and middle-aged technical specialists, and actively carries out talent recruitment and training. It conducts extensive exchanges and cooperation with major hospitals and renowned experts in China and abroad. As a specialty physician training base of the Ministry of Health, it has extensive experience and capabilities in clinical teaching and supervision. It undertakes the training of postgraduate students, undergraduate students, residents in standardized training programs, and physicians receiving advanced training at various levels, and is responsible for teaching emergency medicine at all levels. The Emergency Center also emphasizes mutual support and interdependence between scientific research and clinical practice, and actively conducts basic and clinical research on critical illnesses, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, brain protection, sepsis, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, and poisoning. In recent years, it has led 2 national-level scientific research projects and 6 provincial- or ministerial-level scientific research projects, and has published nearly 100 papers.
The medical and nursing team of the Emergency Center has always followed the departmental motto, “Strive forward courageously and pursue perfection.” It works with vigor and determination and remains steadfast and tireless on the path of high-quality disciplinary development. It always upholds a patient-centered medical philosophy and safeguards patients’ health with outstanding medical expertise and high-quality services!
