The joint surgery department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University combines care, research and teaching and is a Liaoning provincial key specialty. Its sports medicine center, established in 2021, offers movement assessment, joint surgery, rehabilitation and injury prevention. The department has 39 beds. The team includes ten doctors, six professors and four physicians, as well as one rehabilitation doctor and four therapists. Five have doctorates and five master's degrees; one supervises doctoral students and four supervise master's students. The department trains more than ten postgraduate students annually and has a digital class-100 laminar-flow operating room, high-definition arthroscopy, and movement assessment and rehabilitation equipment. Services cover joint disease, arthroscopic sports medicine, bone tumors and rehabilitation. The department reports more than 600 joint replacements annually, including direct anterior approach (DAA) hip replacement, unicompartmental replacement and revision surgery. It performs over 650 arthroscopies annually, including more than 200 shoulder procedures, and treats shoulder, knee, hip, wrist, elbow and ankle joints. The hospital describes these techniques and volumes as regionally or nationally advanced. Movement testing and exercise prescriptions support injury prevention, chronic disease management and postoperative and older-adult rehabilitation; rehabilitation and physical therapy are also provided for acute and chronic disease.
