Obstetric and Gynecologic Ultrasound Imaging Diagnosis Department

To enhance the overall competitive strength of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Second Hospital of Dalian Medical University, provide patients with more precise and optimized diagnosis and treatment plans, and build the best obstetrics and gynecology department in southern Liaoning, the Second Hospital of Dalian Medical University began preparing to establish the Department of Obstetric and Gynecologic Ultrasound Imaging at the end of 2020, and officially commenced operations on March 1, 2021.

The department is headed by Professor Jing Chunli, an outstanding expert of Liaoning Province, a high-level talent of Dalian City, and a recipient of the special government allowance of the Dalian Municipal Government. It is composed of Professor Liu Ying, a senior ultrasound expert at the hospital, and young backbone physicians from the ultrasound team. It is an experienced, highly skilled, well-disciplined, rigorous, and standardized specialized team in obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound; it aims to bring its ultrasound diagnostic standards in line with those of leading hospitals internationally and domestically, achieve standardization and precision, and support the safety of clinical diagnosis and treatment in obstetrics and gynecology and the selection of optimized treatment plans.

The department currently has 5 top-configured high-end four-dimensional color Doppler ultrasound machines, enabling high-level specialized ultrasound examinations in obstetrics and gynecology as well as the classification and itemized assessment of fetal malformations.

The department currently also undertakes theoretical teaching, clinical observation, and internship supervision in multidisciplinary and multilevel ultrasound medicine (the obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound component) at Dalian Medical University. It is also part of the standardized residency training base for ultrasound medicine, responsible for theoretical teaching and rotational training in obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound for trainees in standardized ultrasound medicine residency training.

The examinations currently provided are:

I. Ultrasound examinations for eugenics and healthy reproduction:

1. Early screening and diagnosis of cesarean scar pregnancy

2. Ultrasound screening and diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy

3. Standardized follicular monitoring

4. Three-dimensional ultrasound diagnosis of uterine malformations

5. Four-dimensional ultrasound diagnosis of endometrial receptivity

6. Ultrasound screening and diagnosis of intrauterine adhesions

II. Obstetric examinations:

1. Ultrasound screening for fetal malformations in the first trimester (11～13+6 weeks of gestation, NT), second trimester (20～24 weeks of gestation), and mid-to-late pregnancy (28～32 weeks of gestation)

2. Level I, II, and III obstetric ultrasound examinations

3. Determination of chorionicity in twin pregnancies during the first trimester

4. Screening and ultrasound monitoring of complications of monochorionic twin pregnancy (twin-to-twin transfusion, twin growth discordance, twin anemia-polycythemia sequence, twin reversed arterial perfusion sequence, etc.), screening for conjoined twins, etc.

5. Color Doppler ultrasound monitoring and diagnosis of high-risk pregnant women, critical obstetric conditions, and critical fetal intrauterine conditions

6. Ultrasound screening and diagnosis of placental abnormalities (velamentous placenta and vasa previa) and umbilical cord abnormalities (single umbilical artery, umbilical cord presentation, etc.)

7. Screening and diagnosis of pernicious placenta previa and placenta accreta

8. Ultrasound screening for the risk of preterm birth

III. Gynecologic examinations:

1. Precise ultrasound diagnosis of various gynecologic diseases

2. Early ultrasound screening and diagnosis of gynecologic tumors (endometrial cancer, endophytic cervical cancer, and perimenopausal ovarian tumors)

3. Differential ultrasound diagnosis of benign and malignant gynecologic tumors

IV. Four-dimensional ultrasound screening and diagnosis of female pelvic floor disorders
