The Second Department of Gastroenterology of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University is a specialty department integrating clinical care, scientific research, and teaching, equipped with advanced diagnostic and treatment equipment and specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. It currently has 31 open beds and 21 medical and nursing staff members, including 3 chief physicians, 3 associate chief physicians, and 3 attending physicians, among whom 4 hold medical doctorates. It is a professional academic team in gastroenterology with profound academic attainments, excellent medical skills, and strong overall capabilities. The Second Department of Gastroenterology is committed to the diagnosis and treatment of common, frequently occurring, critical, and difficult diseases in gastroenterology.
Current specialized diagnostic and treatment services: (1) Early screening, diagnosis, and treatment of gastrointestinal tumors: serum three-item gastric function testing is combined with blue-laser endoscopy, chromoendoscopy, and NBI technology to screen for early gastric cancer and colorectal tumors; endoscopic techniques such as high-frequency electrocoagulation resection, high-frequency electrocoagulation snare resection, and mucosal and submucosal resection are used to provide minimally invasive treatment for gastrointestinal polyps, early gastric cancer, and early colorectal cancer. The department is the first designated unit in Dalian for the collaborative center of the “Digestive Tract Tumor Screening and Early Diagnosis and Early Treatment Program.” (2) Diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease: standardized diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, are carried out. The department took the lead in establishing an in-hospital multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment team for inflammatory bowel disease (MDT), and regularly conducts discussions of difficult and severe cases. Through multidisciplinary collaboration and long-term follow-up management, it improves the diagnostic level and efficacy of inflammatory bowel disease and actively explores new models for its diagnosis and treatment. (3) Functional gastrointestinal diseases: the department was among the first in Northeast China to conduct upper gastrointestinal motility testing, improving the diagnosis and treatment outcomes of gastrointestinal motility disorders, including gastroesophageal reflux disease, functional dyspepsia, and irritable bowel syndrome, and has achieved multiple scientific and technological accomplishments and awards in this field. The department has become a member institution of the “Liaoning Province Alliance for Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment of Esophageal Diseases.” (4) Gastrointestinal bleeding: gastroscopy and colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy, and enteroscopy are used to diagnose obscure gastrointestinal bleeding, tumors, and small intestinal diseases. In addition to medication, various types of gastrointestinal bleeding are treated endoscopically through endoscopic injection, hemoclip closure, high-frequency electrocoagulation, and other methods. (5) Gastric acid- and Helicobacter pylori-related diseases: testing of gastric acid secretion and Helicobacter pylori infection is conducted, and the department has extensive clinical experience in the eradication treatment of Helicobacter pylori, peptic ulcers and their complications, chronic gastritis, and other conditions.
At the same time, the department has long conducted clinical research related to the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of early gastrointestinal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and Helicobacter pylori infection; it has participated in multiple domestic and international clinical drug trials and has completed 1 Liaoning Provincial Natural Science Foundation project and multiple Dalian municipal-level projects.
