Puwan Campus Nephrology Department
The Department of Nephrology of the Second Hospital of Dalian Medical University was established in the 1950s. It is one of the earliest-established nephrology specialties in China, a provincial key discipline, and a core member institution of the “China Kidney Disease Big Data Collaboration Network.” It has 4 wards, 3 blood purification centers, and 1 peritoneal dialysis center. Since 2015, it has successively established the Institute of Immunology and Renal Disease Metabolism, a pathology laboratory, and a specialized clinical laboratory. It focuses on clinical translational research into the pathogenesis of primary glomerular diseases, particularly IgA nephropathy and membranous nephropathy, as well as cytological diagnosis using urine, blood, and other specimens in chronic kidney disease, and carries out in-depth prevention and treatment of the occurrence and development of uremia. The department provides precision medicine for difficult and severe kidney diseases and has its own unique and innovative therapies. It carries out multiple new technologies and is at the domestic leading level in the diagnosis and treatment of end-stage kidney disease. In addition to various conventional blood purification treatments, including conventional hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, hemoperfusion, plasma exchange, and continuous blood purification modalities, it actively performs the establishment of various hemodialysis accesses, including autologous arteriovenous fistulas, long-term central venous catheterization, temporary central venous catheterization, and interventional treatment of vascular access thrombosis. It performs peritoneal dialysis treatment, including peritoneal dialysis catheter placement and the treatment of various complications. It has an independent peritoneal dialysis center and a dedicated medical care team to manage peritoneal dialysis patients. The department has successfully conducted genetic diagnosis of hereditary kidney diseases, as well as basic research on the functions and mutations of defective genes. At the same time, it established the Institute of Metabolic and Immune Kidney Diseases, further devoting itself to research on the molecular and immunological mechanisms of kidney diseases and the discovery of new diagnostic technologies, pathogenic pathways, and therapeutic drugs. As a core member institution of the “China Kidney Disease Big Data Collaboration Network,” it can achieve integrated and intelligent regional management of chronic kidney disease. The department has a favorable development environment and a departmental culture of scientific management and innovation. In the future, it will continue to actively improve its medical technical standards, while strengthening technological innovation and clinical research, pursuing the goal of achieving first-class status within the province and an advanced level domestically.
