General Practice Medicine Ward

The Department of General Practice was formerly the Comprehensive Cadre Medical Ward, established in 1997, and in 2015 it was officially designated a standardized general practice residency training base. In 2016, the hospital established the Department of General Practice as an independent department, and in 2017 it opened the general practice clinic; it currently has 2 general practice consultation rooms. In 2021 it was approved as a key specialty of Liaoning Province. The Department of General Practice has four sub-specialty training directions: chronic respiratory diseases, chronic heart disease, early cancer screening and neurodegenerative diseases. The general practice clinic offers a chronic disease management clinic and an undifferentiated disease clinic, adopts a "comprehensive, continuous, whole-person" management model, and is skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of common diseases, frequently occurring diseases and undifferentiated diseases, the comprehensive management of patients with multiple coexisting chronic diseases, early tumor screening, comprehensive geriatric assessment and treatment of geriatric comorbidities; it provides patients with correction through lifestyle medicine as well as cardiopulmonary rehabilitation guidance; for difficult and complex diseases, it operates an MDT platform to improve service quality and efficiency; it carries out hierarchical diagnosis and treatment and two-way referral; and it gives full play to the role of the Department of General Practice as a gatekeeper, reducing the inconvenience of patients having to visit multiple specialties.

The general practice physician team has 4 holders of doctoral degrees and 2 holders of master's degrees. It has led 1 national and teaching reform project, 1 provincial teaching reform project and 1 university teaching reform project, led 1 provincial natural science foundation project and participated in 5 national and provincial natural science foundation projects. More than 20 SCI papers have been published. The general practice residency training base has so far trained more than 100 residency trainees, 1 doctoral student, more than 60 transfer training trainees and more than 10 socially recruited trainees. The Department of General Practice has formed a general practice medical consortium with community hospitals, training backbone physicians for primary-level hospitals, improving the level of primary-level diagnosis and treatment, realizing two-way referral and community house calls, and providing convenient services for community residents seeking medical care.

"Benevolence of the healer, perseverance of the teacher" is the core philosophy of the general practice residency teaching base.
