Diamond Bay Campus Nephrology and Dialysis Center
The Department of Nephrology of the Diamond Bay Campus of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University was established in 2005. Through the unremitting efforts of several generations, the department has developed into a professional specialty with strong technical capabilities and first-class service quality — a center for the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and management of kidney diseases that integrates medical care, teaching and scientific research — earning wide praise from patients.
The Department of Nephrology comprises a nephrology outpatient clinic, a nephrology inpatient ward and a blood purification center. Adhering to the tenet of "patient-centered, medical ethics as the foundation, technology as the basis and service as the pursuit", the department keeps a close eye on domestic frontiers and actively carries out a series of new services and technologies. It is proficient in the diagnosis and treatment of refractory proteinuria, complicated urinary tract infections, pyelonephritis, acute and chronic nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, acute and chronic renal failure, renal interstitial fibrosis and other diseases, and has accumulated rich clinical experience in various secondary kidney diseases such as hypertensive renal damage, diabetic nephropathy, lupus nephritis, hepatitis B-associated nephritis and Henoch-Schönlein purpura nephritis. The department also undertakes and participates in blood purification for critically ill patients throughout the hospital and in the rescue of patients with all kinds of poisoning.
The department is capable of performing deep vein catheterization, arteriovenous fistula surgery, kidney biopsy, peritoneal dialysis catheter placement and many other techniques, and cooperates closely with other departments of the hospital, making positive contributions to the rescue of critically ill patients with multiple conditions such as systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), lactic acidosis, acute necrotizing pancreatitis, refractory heart failure, drug (toxin) overdose and immune diseases.
The department has a long history of hemodialysis. It is currently the blood purification center with the strongest comprehensive capabilities in the northern part of the urban area of Dalian, equipped with various types of imported hemodialysis machines, capable of routine hemodialysis, hemodiafiltration, hemoperfusion, plasma exchange and other blood purification techniques, significantly improving the cure rate of acute renal failure caused by various etiologies, prolonging the survival of patients with chronic renal failure and markedly improving patients' quality of life. Among patients currently on hemodialysis, the longest dialysis duration exceeds 20 years.
In particular, in the field of hemodialysis access, in recent years the department has gradually carried out various dialysis access surgeries such as arteriovenous fistula creation. With the development of interventional techniques, the department has kept pace with the times, sending dedicated staff to hospitals affiliated with Peking University and Capital Medical University for advanced training, specializing in cutting-edge techniques of dialysis vascular access. At present, under the guidance of ultrasound and digital subtraction angiography (DSA), it can perform advanced procedures such as balloon dilation for arteriovenous fistula stenosis and thrombus removal, greatly improving the success rate and quality of hemodialysis access surgery and laying a solid foundation for patients to receive better hemodialysis treatment.
"A time will come to ride the wind and cleave the waves; I'll set my cloud-like sail and cross the sea." As the incidence of chronic kidney disease rises year by year in China, the mission borne by kidney disease specialists is increasingly arduous. All the medical and nursing staff of the department will bear in mind the hospital motto of "revering virtue and upholding medicine", unite as one, blaze new trails, and make greater contributions to the prevention and treatment of kidney diseases for the people of our city and surrounding areas.
