Jinpu Campus Neurosurgery Department
The Department of Neurosurgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University was established in the early 1950s by Professor Zhao Yangsheng, a renowned Chinese neurosurgical expert, and is one of the earliest institutions in China to undertake neurosurgical work. After more than 60 years of development, it has become a large neurosurgical diagnosis and treatment center integrating medical care, scientific research, and teaching, and one of the leading centers in the southern Liaoning region of our province. It is one of the first Dalian municipal key disciplines and a doctoral program in Surgery at Dalian Medical University. It undertakes more than 30 research projects at various levels, including projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, collaborative key research projects under the National 11th Five-Year Plan, and projects of the Ministry of Health, the Provincial Science and Technology Commission, the Provincial Education Commission, and Dalian Municipality. It has published hundreds of medical papers in domestic and international journals, dozens of which have been indexed by SCI. It has hosted international and national academic conferences and national- and provincial-level continuing education programs on many occasions. It has successively received more than 10 scientific and technological awards of various levels and types, including the second- and third-class prizes of the Liaoning Science and Technology Progress Award and the second- and third-class prizes of the Dalian Science and Technology Progress Award. More than 1,000 operations are performed annually, of which tumors of the nervous system and cerebrovascular diseases account for approximately 80% of the total in southern Liaoning.
The Department of Neurosurgery at the Jinpu Campus has strong technical expertise. It currently has 3 chief physicians, 2 deputy chief physicians, and 1 attending physician; more than 80% of the department’s physicians hold doctoral degrees and have studied or received further training abroad. The department is equipped with first-rate instruments, including 1 German Zeiss surgical microscope that is advanced by domestic standards, 1 Medtronic power system, 1 STOZE neuroendoscope, 1 dynamic cerebrovascular DSA system, 1 128-slice Siemens spiral CT scanner, 1 64-slice Siemens spiral CT scanner, and 1 1.5T magnetic resonance scanner.
In recent years, the department has continued to pursue progress and innovation and has achieved fruitful results. It has achieved fruitful results in the rescue and treatment of severe craniocerebral injuries and in the treatment of brain tumors and cerebrovascular diseases. It was the first to successfully perform a number of new procedures, including fully endoscopic pituitary tumor resection, carotid endarterectomy for the treatment of ischemic cerebrovascular disease, superficial temporal artery apposition, temporal muscle apposition, dural inversion for the treatment of moyamoya disease, trigeminal nerve decompression for trigeminal neuralgia, and minimally invasive endoscopic hematoma evacuation for hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage. It has performed to a high standard fully endoscopic transnasal transsphenoidal pituitary tumor resection, surgery for sellar-region tumors, cerebellopontine angle tumor resection, various meningioma operations, aneurysm clipping, endovascular aneurysm embolization, and emergency thrombectomy for cerebral infarction, achieving good social benefits.
The department’s overall comprehensive strength has reached an advanced level within the province. It has now gradually developed into a large neurosurgical disease diagnosis and treatment center and research base that is first-class in southern Liaoning and characterized by the “Minimally Invasive Treatment Center for Intracerebral Hemorrhage,” the “Standardized and Individualized Pituitary Tumor Treatment Center,” the “Cerebrovascular Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center,” the “Severe Traumatic Brain Injury Treatment and Rehabilitation Center,” and the “Standardized and Individualized Glioma Treatment Center.” All medical and nursing staff of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Jinpu Campus are ready to provide you at any time with professional, convenient, high-quality, efficient, and comprehensive medical services, and are willing to work together with the whole of society to strive to establish a first-class neurosurgical diagnosis and treatment center throughout the province.
