Hand Microsurgery Department
The Department of Hand and Microsurgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University was established in 2005. It currently has 30 beds and 20 medical and nursing staff members, including 4 with senior professional titles and 6 doctoral degree holders. It is authorized to confer doctoral and master's degrees of Dalian Medical University. The scope of diagnosis and treatment in our department includes upper-limb fractures and trauma; sports injuries; nerve injuries of the extremities and wound repair; congenital hand deformities and late functional reconstruction after hand trauma; and diseases of the foot, among others. Our department possesses excellent medical expertise and advanced equipment. In particular, our internal fixation technique for traumatic fractures has reached an internationally advanced level. All replanted amputated fingers in ten-finger amputation cases survived, placing us among the world's advanced ranks. The academic leader, Director Qu Wei, has extensively applied minimally invasive surgical techniques in clinical practice. Among these, the surgical techniques for minimally invasive treatment of upper-limb fractures and acute Achilles tendon rupture have been published in authoritative foreign journals and are at the forefront. We have achieved outstanding results in upper-limb artificial joint replacement, the treatment and late reconstruction of brachial plexus injuries, repair of wound defects, congenital hand deformities, and malignant tumors of the limbs.
In recent years, our department has developed upper-limb arthroscopy techniques for treating sports injuries of the shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints. We have introduced advanced arthroscopic equipment and dispatched doctors to hospitals in China and abroad for further training. We were among the earliest in China to perform carpal tunnel endoscopy for the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome, and have earned a good reputation among patients for its favorable outcomes, minimal trauma, rapid recovery, and short hospital stay.
At present, our department undertakes one National Natural Science Foundation of China project and has published 2 translated books. We conduct a series of studies on the repair of nerve injuries and nerve regeneration. In 2007, we received the First Prize of the Liaoning Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, and have published more than 50 papers in China and abroad. Guided by the principle of “service, creativity, and doing everything well,” the medical and nursing staff of our department will provide high-quality medical services wholeheartedly to the general public of patients with full enthusiasm and superb technical expertise.
