Cardiovascular Critical Care Department
The HICU of the Cardiovascular Disease Hospital was established in December 2009 and is responsible for treating patients with acute, critical, and severe cardiovascular diseases in southern Liaoning. It currently has 20 beds and is equipped with advanced and comprehensive monitoring, support, and treatment equipment, including conventional invasive hemodynamic monitoring and noninvasive and invasive cardiac output/cardiac index monitoring. It can perform temporary endocardial and epicardial pacing, conventional noninvasive or invasive mechanical ventilation, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), left ventricular assist device (LVAD) support, and artificial lung (ECMO) treatment. It admits critically ill cardiac patients after cardiac surgery, those with severe myocardial infarction due to coronary heart disease, cardiogenic shock, sudden cardiac death, severe myocarditis, life-threatening arrhythmias, aortic dissection, and other conditions, as well as critically ill patients from all departments of the hospital who require cardiac and other-system monitoring. The HICU admits more than 1,000 patients annually and uses new technologies, including BiPAP ventilation therapy for acute left heart failure, IABP left ventricular assistance for cardiogenic shock, and CRRT for heart failure and septic shock, to treat patients and improve the treatment success rate. The department also provides music therapy to relieve patients’ tension and anxiety and promote their recovery.
