The Emergency Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University is one of the first batch of emergency specialty physician training bases of the former Ministry of Health, the Liaoning Provincial Emergency Medicine Center, the Liaoning Provincial Emergency Nursing Training Center, a Liaoning Provincial Clinical Key Specialty, a Grade I key medical discipline of Dalian, the Dalian In-Hospital Emergency Quality Control Center, the Dalian Clinical Practice Skills Training Center built with the support of the Dalian project for rapidly improving medical soft power, a China Primary Trauma Care training base, and the "China-Canada" Emergency and Trauma Center and clinical teaching unit jointly established by the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. It is also the largest, most complete in structure, strongest in capability, most contributive and most influential vital life-saving green channel in Dalian and southern Liaoning, and has become an important front for responding to public health emergencies and disaster rescue, receiving commendations many times from the provincial and municipal governments and the Dalian Municipal Health Bureau.nnThe Emergency Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University consists of the Emergency Department of the Changchun Road Campus and the Emergency Department of the Jinpu Campus. The Emergency Department contains 5 zones: the general emergency zone, the emergency resuscitation zone, the emergency observation zone, the emergency intensive care zone and the emergency ancillary examination zone. The general emergency zone comprises emergency internal medicine, surgery, orthopedics, neurology, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, stomatology and dermatology, all with open consulting rooms, well-equipped and staffed by experienced senior physicians with titles of attending physician or above, and its care model is aligned with international practice, with an emergency infusion room and emergency operating room. The emergency resuscitation zone is the emergency resuscitation room, equipped with the most advanced monitoring and resuscitation equipment, providing strong support for saving lives. The emergency observation zone is equipped with an advanced wireless bedside monitoring system and fixed emergency medical and nursing staff, providing assurance for the care of batches of patients during sudden emergency events. The emergency intensive care zone (EICU) is designed according to internationally accepted standards, provides centralized management of critically ill patients, and applies advanced technologies from home and abroad such as invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring, bedside blood purification, mild hypothermia therapy, rapid bedside monitoring, bedside ultrasound and X-ray examination; it admits more than 1,000 patients a year, with a resuscitation success rate of 92.8%. The emergency ancillary examination zone is a department exclusive to the Emergency Department, with ancillary units such as emergency laboratory, electrocardiography, CT, X-ray, color ultrasound and emergency pharmacy, located on the same floor as the emergency care zone, with a rational layout for convenient care. The Emergency Department implements one-stop services such as accompanied examination, triage, emergency consultation rooms and admission, and all sections achieve full coverage of computer network systems, logistics transfer systems and PACS information network terminals, enabling real-time transmission of patient information, laboratory data and imaging data, winning precious time for patient treatment and rescue. The emergency resuscitation zone of the Emergency Department is open 24 hours all year round, with more than 250,000 patient visits a year.nnOur Emergency Department integrates medical care, teaching and research, and is an emergency medicine master's degree authorization point, a national standardized residency training base and the Dalian Clinical Practice Skills Training Center. It undertakes continuing education in emergency medicine at all levels for the nation, Liaoning Province and Dalian, and teaching tasks in emergency medicine and acute poisoning within internal medicine for Dalian Medical University at all levels. It has repeatedly held national and provincial academic conferences and continuing medical education courses, and has trained several hundred advanced-study physicians and more than 70 graduate students in emergency medicine.nnOur Emergency Department has strong research capabilities. It has repeatedly won provincial and municipal science and technology progress awards and municipal new medical and health technology awards, and has obtained more than 30 national, provincial and municipal research projects. It participated in the formulation of the "2016 Chinese Expert Consensus on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation" and the "2016 Chinese Expert Consensus on Targeted Temperature Management after Cardiac Arrest". It has edited 17 monographs, of which "Emergency Medicine", published by People's Medical Publishing House, is a national planning textbook for regular institutions of higher education under the Ministry of Health's "Eleventh Five-Year Plan".
