Day Surgery Center (Lianhe Road Campus)

Day surgery refers to a management model in which admission, surgery, and discharge are completed within 24-48 hours. It is characterized by high management efficiency, savings in medical insurance costs, and a short hospital stay, and is one of the major initiatives in the reform of China’s healthcare system and the improvement of medical services.

The Day Surgery Center of our hospital’s Lianhe Road Campus opened on January 24, 2019, and was the first independently established and centrally managed day surgery center in southern Liaoning. The center operates under a model of centralized admission and centralized management. It is an independent public platform that shares resources with relevant specialties, emphasizing quality and safety as well as operational efficiency.

The Day Surgery Center of the Lianhe Road Campus has 18 authorized beds and 21 beds that can actually be opened, and is equipped with an appointment center, an anesthesia assessment outpatient clinic, and 2 dedicated operating rooms. The Day Surgery Center of the Lianhe Road Campus has 1 director, 1 deputy director, 4 full-time doctors, 1 head nurse, and 8 nurses, providing an integrated medical, nursing, and anesthesia service model. To ensure the medical quality and safety of day surgery, the center has established comprehensive rules and regulations, including preoperative anesthesia assessment standards, discharge assessment standards, and post-discharge follow-up plans. The hospital has opened an efficient and convenient green channel for day surgery patients, established dedicated windows for day surgery admission and settlement, provided patients with high-quality services throughout the entire process, opened dedicated examination channels, prioritized examinations and the issuance of results, optimized the medical treatment process for day patients, and greatly improved patients’ medical experience.

Since its opening, the Day Surgery Center has admitted more than 2 thousand patients annually, with an average daily surgical volume of 8-10 procedures and an average length of stay of 1.56 days. The surgical volume accounts for approximately 14% of the surgical volume in the operating rooms during the same period, among which Grade III and IV surgeries account for nearly 20%. At the same time, the center has focused on developing new technologies and was the first in southern Liaoning to carry out cutting-edge technologies such as radiofrequency ablation of the great saphenous vein, day-surgery management of inferior vena cava filters, and implantation of sacral nerve stimulators. Currently, all surgical departments at the Lianhe Road Campus have begun performing day surgery, primarily minimally invasive surgery. The main diseases treated include: great saphenous varicose veins, lower-extremity venous thrombosis, gallbladder stones, gallbladder polyps, abdominal external hernia, benign and malignant thyroid tumors, breast diseases, perianal diseases, benign prostatic hyperplasia, phimosis, benign bladder diseases, mediastinal tumors, lumbar vertebral fractures, lumbar disc herniation, digestive tract polyps, etc., involving nearly 100 types of surgery.
