Extracorporeal Circulation Department
The Department of Cardiopulmonary Bypass at Shanghai DeltaHealth Cardiovascular Hospital is an indispensable and important member of the surgical team. All perfusionists hold professional certification as extracorporeal circulation perfusionists and have more than 10 years of work experience in large specialized cardiovascular hospitals in China and abroad. They can independently perform routine extracorporeal circulation procedures for neonates, children, and adults, as well as deep hypothermic circulatory arrest with cerebral perfusion, and extracorporeal life-support techniques such as ECMO and ventricular assist. DeltaHealth Cardiovascular Hospital is currently a member of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO).
The department is equipped with internationally advanced extracorporeal circulation equipment, including the LivaNova S5 and Maquet HL30 heart-lung machines and ECMO equipment, as well as advanced extracorporeal circulation safety-monitoring equipment. These provide respiratory and circulatory support and extracorporeal life support for patients undergoing cardiac surgery. The department uses arterial microembolus-integrated oxygenators, VAVD for minimally invasive surgery, NIRS cerebral oxygen monitoring, minimally invasive centrifugal pumps, extracorporeal adsorption perfusion, long-acting myocardial protection, and advanced blood-conservation strategies to provide safe cardiopulmonary bypass and protect the myocardium, nervous system, and organs.
The extracorporeal circulation team adheres to the philosophy of “patient-centered care, life first.” It provides technical support for surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety and the smooth progress of surgery, while continuously working to expand new skills and technologies. The team has particular expertise in perioperative blood management, blood conservation, aortic dissection, extracorporeal circulation support for thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm surgery, and neurological and organ protection, providing patients with better treatment.
