The Department of Pharmacy of Shanghai DeltaHealth Cardiovascular Hospital comprises four regular business departments: the outpatient pharmacy, VIP pharmacy, inpatient pharmacy, and drug warehouse. It is primarily responsible for ensuring the supply of medicines and providing pharmaceutical services throughout the hospital. Upholding the departmental service philosophy of “ensuring medication safety and promoting rational medication use” and the pharmaceutical service principles of “humanization, professionalization, standardization, and refinement,” and adopting unity and collaboration, treating people with integrity, innovative research, and efficient service as the substance of its service, the department strives to improve the quality of all its work.

The department currently has automated dispensing and distribution facilities, including a tablet dispensing machine for single-dose oral medicines and a pneumatic tube transport system. An independent Pharmacy Intravenous Admixture Service center (PIVAS) has also been established under the inpatient pharmacy, with separate compounding rooms for antimicrobial drugs, cytotoxic drugs, and total parenteral nutrition, thereby implementing an integrated pharmacy work model.

The Department of Pharmacy is actively promoting the transformation of the pharmaceutical service model, placing emphasis on the development of the clinical pharmacy discipline and actively cultivating professional disciplinary talent. It is blurring the boundary between dispensing-window pharmacists and clinical pharmacists and advancing the work approach of “clinical pharmacists for all.” The department’s work model has gradually shifted from traditional medicine supply and assurance to professional technical services. While promoting rational medication use, it is also integrating the thoracic and cardiovascular specialty characteristics of DeltaHealth Cardiovascular Hospital and striving to develop a specialized pharmaceutical discipline featuring thoracic and cardiovascular medicine.
