Traditional Chinese Medicine Gynecology Department
Founded in 1985, the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Gynecology Department is a key specialty under development at the hospital, a Beijing TCM gynecology diagnostic and treatment center and a Beijing 12th Five-Year Plan key specialty. It hosts the studios of Professor Xu Runsan and the third cohort of national TCM masters, is a national clinical pharmacology trial base and belongs to a National Administration of TCM key disease collaboration group. Its seven physicians all hold doctorates and have trained with Professor Xu on ward rounds and in outpatient consultations. They combine his experience with their own clinical and experimental research. Services include integrated TCM and Western management of female infertility caused by ovulation disorders, tubal factors or unexplained causes, including TCM alongside assisted reproduction. The department works with radiology and ultrasound on hysterosalpingography with water- or oil-based iodine contrast, ultrasound tubal imaging and ovulation monitoring; the hospital reports significant results. For pelvic inflammatory disease and sequelae, including recurrence, chronic pelvic pain, ectopic pregnancy and tubal obstruction, it offers a five-part TCM regimen including oral medicines, enemas, hot compresses and iontophoresis. Cervicitis and HPV infection are treated with medication or physical methods using an electronic colposcopy imaging system and focused ultrasound device. Other care covers endometriosis, adenomyosis, endometrial polyps, menopausal syndrome, polycystic ovary syndrome, hyperprolactinemia and other menstrual disorders, fibroids, ovarian cysts, vaginitis, ectopic pregnancy, threatened miscarriage, preconception and postpartum care. The department has developed over ten hospital-agreed prescriptions and related specialist clinics.
