Dermatology and Venereology
The Department of Dermatology and Venereology was established in the early 1950s. Through the efforts of several generations, it has become a department integrating medical care, teaching, and scientific research. It is the institutional center for expert consultations on dermatological diseases in Beijing; a training site for master’s and doctoral students in dermatology and venereology; a postdoctoral mobile workstation; a standardized dermatology residency-training base in Beijing; a Ministry of Health clinical drug-trial base; a national demonstration base for dermatological medical cosmetology; a Beijing medical-cosmetology physician-training base; a National Health Commission cosmetics adverse-reaction monitoring base; and the responsible institution for the China Eczema and Dermatitis Research Base and the Allergy and Clinical Immunology Center of Beijing Friendship Hospital. It currently holds a leading national position in allergic and immune skin diseases, hair loss, and dermatological medical cosmetology.
Technical Features
Diagnosis and treatment of allergic and immune skin diseases: Relying on the Allergy and Clinical Immunology Diagnosis and Treatment Center, the department focuses on immune-inflammatory skin diseases and provides specialty clinics for eczema and atopic dermatitis, allergy and urticaria, psoriasis and psoriasis comorbidities, and immunity and vitiligo. It performs dermoscopy, allergen testing, patch testing, UV phototherapy for psoriasis, 308nm laser and fractional-laser treatment for vitiligo, epidermal transplantation for vitiligo, and other treatments. For stubborn, difficult-to-treat diseases such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and urticaria, it uses a comprehensive plan of “biologics/small-molecule drugs + skin-barrier repair + health education.” For many consecutive years, the team has led national continuing-education courses on diagnosing and treating eczema, dermatitis, and skin allergies; led development of the Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Atopic Dermatitis in Primary Medical Institutions; and promoted nationwide improvement in primary-level diagnosis and treatment.
Hair health and hair-loss diseases: The department is one of the hair-loss diagnosis and treatment centers approved by the Ministry of Health. It was the first worldwide to combine fractional CO2 laser with hair-growth solution to promote hair regeneration in androgenetic alopecia, and the first domestically to combine microneedling with low-energy laser for hair regeneration. It also provides hormonal blockade in hair-loss areas, platelet-rich plasma therapy, and other treatments, as well as compound-acid scalp treatment for moderate-to-severe scalp seborrheic dermatitis.
Dermatological Medical Cosmetology
In 1997, the department was the first in Beijing to launch laser cosmetic treatments. It has developed into one of the region’s dermatological cosmetic diagnosis and treatment centers with mature technology and advanced equipment, providing residents with high-quality, diversified services. Skin texture and tone improvement includes photorejuvenation, hyaluronic-acid water-light injections, microneedle collagen delivery, and gold-microneedle radiofrequency for dull tone, enlarged pores, and related problems; fractional laser repairs acne pits and other texture abnormalities; and yellow-light repair and whitening are also provided. For pigmentary diseases and tattoos, 755nm picosecond laser and Q-switched 1064nmNd:YAG laser precisely remove freckles, melasma, age spots, tattoos, and more. Vascular-disease intervention includes 595nm pulsed-dye laser and intense pulsed light for red acne marks, facial telangiectasia, rosacea, and other capillary-dilation problems. Services also include botulinum-toxin injections, hyaluronic-acid fillers, treatment of skin laxity and sagging with Thermage and gold microneedles, and safe hair removal using semiconductor cooling-point devices and intense pulsed light.
Talent Development and Discipline Building
The department attaches great importance to building its talent pipeline and has formed a three-generation team of senior, middle-aged, and young staff, led by senior experts, supported by backbone physicians, and replenished by young physicians. It currently has 32 active medical, nursing, and technical personnel: 24 physicians, 7 nurses, 1 technician, and 2 doctoral supervisors. It led establishment of the Beijing Friendship Hospital dermatology medical consortium, improving primary-level skin-disease diagnosis and treatment. As the responsible quality-control institution for dermatology and venereology in Tongzhou District, it has built a standardized diagnosis-and-treatment quality-control system, established and developed databases, and improved care quality.
Service philosophy: The department upholds the hospital motto “Benevolence and Excellence,” follows the principle “patient-centered,” continuously improves medical technology, optimizes care processes, creates a warm and comfortable medical environment, and is committed to providing every patient with compassionate, high-quality medical services.
