Nephrology
The Nephrology Department of Beijing Friendship Hospital was established in 1989. The hospital describes it as an early center for kidney research and blood purification and the host of a Beijing peritoneal dialysis center. It reports 126 medical, nursing and technical staff, including 30 physicians, and training and research responsibilities in nephrology.
The department lists hemofiltration, high-flux dialysis, immunoadsorption and plasma exchange, management of acute and chronic kidney failure and complications, and vascular access procedures including native and graft arteriovenous fistulas and ultrasound-guided balloon dilation. It reports 281 hemodialysis stations, more than 76,000 dialysis visits and over 500 vascular access procedures annually. The hospital reports a five-year dialysis patient survival rate of 86% and average survival of 12 years; these figures are from its own description. Its peritoneal dialysis service includes automated dialysis and remote management.
The hospital describes kidney biopsy and pathology for IgA and membranous nephropathy, lupus nephritis and diabetic kidney disease, with pathology- and biomarker-informed immunosuppressive treatment and multi-target therapy for refractory nephrotic syndrome. It also reports work on quality-control standards, national guidelines and continuing medical education.
