Interventional Medicine Center
The Interventional Medicine Center of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University was established in 2013 with approval from the Shandong Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission. It was the first interventional medicine center in Shandong Province. Its development philosophy is aligned with international standards, and it is a tertiary clinical discipline. The center includes two interventional medicine outpatient clinics at the Shinan and West Coast campuses and an interventional ward at the West Coast Campus. The outpatient clinics are located on the 6th floor of the outpatient building at the Shinan Campus and the 3rd floor of the outpatient building at the West Coast Campus. Interventional operating rooms are located at both campuses. The interventional ward is an independent clinical unit with 48 beds on the 19th floor of Building B of the West Coast inpatient department.
The center has 13 doctors: 3 chief physicians, 2 associate chief physicians, 4 attending physicians, and 4 physicians. Several have worked abroad. It has 2 doctors with doctoral degrees and 2 doctoral candidates; all staff have at least a master’s degree. The center has four subspecialties: comprehensive tumor intervention, nonvascular intervention, neurovascular intervention, and peripheral vascular intervention.
The center performs nearly all interventional diagnosis and treatment procedures currently available in China. It has a high level of expertise in comprehensive tumor intervention, radioactive particle therapy, tumor ablation (radiofrequency, microwave, cryotherapy, and photodynamic therapy), and neurovascular intervention, with some areas reaching a nationally leading level. It participated in formulating the radiological particle therapy standards of the National Health Commission’s Medical Administration Bureau and is a co-editor institution of the national training textbook Standards for Tumor Radioactive Particle Therapy.
The department undertakes projects of the Shandong major research and development program, Shandong Health Commission science and technology projects, and the Shandong Natural Science Foundation, as well as multiple national and provincial continuing-education projects. In 2016 it hosted the Second Asia-Pacific International Conference on Minimally Invasive Oncology. Every three years it hosts the Shandong Peninsula Interventional Therapy Forum, and every year it holds the Qingdao Interventional Diagnosis and Treatment Annual Conference and the Interventional Specialty Conference of Qingdao University Medical Group.
The center is the chair institution of the Imaging Technology Branch of the Tumor Minimally Invasive Treatment Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association and the chair institution of the Interventional Diagnosis and Treatment Specialty Branch of the Qingdao Medical Association. A number of renowned interventional medicine experts from China and Shandong hold important positions in national, provincial, and municipal academic societies.
The center aims to become a first-class national center in staffing, technical level, management, research capacity, infrastructure, and equipment. Its mission is to rely on the goal of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University to build a national medical center, establish a first-class clinical, teaching, and research base, and gradually create a national key discipline.
The center has abundant talent, a rational staffing structure and hierarchy, and balanced vascular and nonvascular intervention. Top experts from various interventional specialties serve as distinguished experts and provide year-round guidance in management and technology. Guided by the cultural philosophy of “virtue, learning, closeness to the people, and innovation,” the center provides patients with a high-quality care environment and high-level medical services.
