I. Discipline Overview

The Health Care (Cadre Care)/Geriatric Medicine Department of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University is a designated cadre health care unit of Shandong Province, undertaking health care duties for cadres, academicians, entrepreneurs in Qingdao and the Peninsula region, as well as central and provincial/ministerial-level leaders visiting Qingdao; at the same time it serves the general elderly population, providing geriatric medicine features such as comprehensive geriatric assessment and geriatric multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment, comprehensively addressing the care of elderly patients with multiple comorbidities, and carrying out distinctive geriatric clinical medicine services.

The Health Care/Geriatric Medicine Department has two campuses, Laoshan and Shinan, with 110 beds. It is a key cultivated discipline of the hospital, the Shandong sub-center of the National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases, a national clinical drug trial base, the Qingdao Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases, and the Qingdao Quality Control Center for Geriatric Medical Care.

II. Talent Team

The discipline currently has 32 physicians and 56 nurses, including 18 with senior professional titles, 4 doctoral supervisors, 2 postdoctoral supervisors, and 8 master's supervisors; 20 hold doctoral degrees and 33 hold master's degrees. It has 1 top talent of Qingdao, 1 district-level top talent, and 2 Qilu Health Leading Talents.

III. Professional Features

Five subspecialty directions: geriatric cardiology, geriatric neurology, geriatric endocrinology and metabolism, geriatric general internal medicine, and a preventive care (zhi wei bing) base.

IV. Research Achievements

The department has obtained 10 National Natural Science Foundation projects and 24 provincial and ministerial-level research projects, more than 20 district-level science and technology support projects, and has led or participated in compiling 4 expert consensus documents. It has won 1 second prize and 1 third prize of the Qingdao Science and Technology Progress Award, more than 20 provincial and municipal research and talent awards, 8 approved invention patents, 2 hospital-level new technologies, and has published more than 70 SCI papers, including 4 papers with an impact factor above 5.
