Pediatric Respiratory and Cardiovascular Medicine Department
From the time of its establishment, the Department of Pediatrics of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University initiated the development of pediatric respiratory medicine. The diligent efforts of the older generation of experts and professors promoted the continuous development of pediatric respiratory medicine, and the department accumulated extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as pediatric pneumonia, bronchial asthma, and chronic cough, achieving particularly good results in areas such as the treatment of pediatric wheezing diseases with both traditional Chinese and Western medicine. From the early 1990s to the present, pediatric respiratory medicine has developed rapidly and was the first in Shandong Province to carry out a series of diagnostic and treatment technologies, including allergen IgE testing, standardized nebulized inhalation therapy for childhood asthma, specific immunotherapy and desensitization, bronchodilation testing, bronchial provocation testing, pulmonary function testing, and pediatric fiberoptic bronchoscopy, gradually developing into a center for the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric respiratory diseases in the Jiaodong region of Shandong Province, and occupying a leading position in the province in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric asthma, severe pneumonia, and difficult and critical cases of respiratory disease. The department has diagnosed and treated numerous difficult and critical cases of pediatric respiratory disease, such as chronic eosinophilic pneumonia, primary ciliary dyskinesia, and allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis. This laid a solid foundation for the establishment of Pediatric Respiratory Medicine. With the strong support of the hospital leadership and the leaders of the Children's Medical Center, the Department of Pediatric Respiratory and Cardiovascular Medicine of the Children's Medical Center of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University was established. We will build on the solid foundation laid by our predecessors, carry forward the past and open up the future, and create new glories.
Professor Qu Zhenghai, the academic leader, is Deputy Director of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University, a member of the Infection Collaboration Group of the Pediatrics Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, a member of the Allergy Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, a member of the Pediatrics Branch of the Shandong Medical Association, and Chairman of the Allergy Branch of the Qingdao Medical Association. Professor Qu Zhenghai has worked extensively in the field of pediatric respiratory immunity for decades, diagnosing, treating, and rescuing countless children with difficult and critical respiratory cases, and has conducted in-depth research into the diagnosis and treatment of bronchial asthma and its pathogenesis.
In pediatric respiratory medicine, Professor Qu Zhenghai leads Guan Renzheng, deputy director of the ward, and Li Lei, Associate Chief Physician, in proficiently diagnosing and treating various diseases of the pediatric respiratory system, such as severe pneumonia, refractory bronchial asthma, chronic cough, interstitial lung disease, and diffuse pulmonary hemorrhage. They are skilled in applying flexible bronchoscopy to diagnose and treat respiratory system diseases, such as etiological diagnosis of recurrent cough and wheezing, bronchoalveolar lavage for lobar pneumonia, removal of bronchial foreign bodies, biopsy and resection of endobronchial masses, cryotherapy, thermal ablation, and so on. Under the leadership of the academic leader, a tiered professional talent development system was established, and the department became a regional center for the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric respiratory diseases. With the goal of building a training base for respiratory specialty professionals, the initially established directions for subspecialty development in pediatric respiratory medicine include:①Diagnosis and treatment and research of respiratory tract infectious diseases;②Diagnosis and treatment and basic research of bronchial asthma and wheezing diseases;③Research on pediatric bronchoscopic interventional techniques;④Diagnosis and treatment and research on the pathogenesis of sleep-disordered breathing;⑤Diagnosis and treatment and research on the pathogenesis of difficult and rare diseases of the respiratory system, etc.
Associate Chief Physician Mao Chenggang of the pediatric cardiovascular specialty has accumulated extensive experience in the standardized diagnosis and treatment of various common cardiac diseases in children, such as myocarditis, various cardiomyopathies, various acute, chronic, and hereditary arrhythmias, Kawasaki disease, pulmonary hypertension, congenital heart disease complicated by pneumonia, and heart failure. Standardized management and long-term follow-up have now been established for children with Kawasaki disease. In collaboration with the Department of Cardiac Surgery, the department has carried out interventional procedures for congenital heart disease in children; in collaboration with the Department of Cardiology, it has carried out radiofrequency ablation for arrhythmias in children, treating congenital heart disease and arrhythmias in children. It was the first in the Jiaodong region to carry out tilt-table testing for the diagnosis of syncope in children, and has become a key institution of the National Pediatric Syncope Collaboration Network. In 2021, cardiac magnetic resonance was used for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of myocarditis in children.
