It is a national-level standardized training base for obstetrics and gynecology, a national-level base for clinical drug trials, a member institution of the Fujian Provincial Specialized Alliance for Standardized Treatment of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, one of the first batch of key specialties for critical obstetric care included in Xiamen’s plan, the Xiamen Center for the Treatment of Critically Ill Pregnant and Postpartum Women, and a master’s degree training site for Xiamen University and Fujian Medical University. 【Scope of Diagnosis and Treatment】1. It offers specialized gynecology outpatient clinics: the Oncology Genetic Counseling Clinic, Pregnancy Preservation Clinic, Reproductive Health and Infertility Clinic, Gynecologic Endocrinology Specialty Clinic, Cervical Disease Specialty Clinic, Specialty Clinic for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Diseases, and Endometriosis Specialty Clinic. 2. It offers specialized obstetric outpatient clinics: the Genetic Counseling Clinic, Prenatal Diagnosis Clinic, Perinatal Nutrition Counseling Clinic, and Midwife Clinic. 3. The outpatient operating room performs colposcopy, induced abortion, diagnostic curettage, insertion and removal of intrauterine contraceptive devices, tubal hydrotubation, microwave treatment of cervical erosion, and other procedures. 【Specialized Technologies】(I) Gynecology has developed a comprehensive, full-spectrum technical structure characterized by minimally invasive techniques and supported by the treatment of difficult and critical diseases. Its surgical system is fully mature, with stable and excellent clinical efficacy. 1. In gynecologic oncology, for gynecologic malignancies such as cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer, and gestational trophoblastic tumors, the department can perform radical total hysterectomy plus pelvic lymph node dissection and tumor cytoreductive surgery, supplemented by comprehensive treatment regimens including intra-arterial interventional chemotherapy, intravenous chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. These measures effectively increase the rate of early tumor detection and improve patients’ five-year postoperative survival rate. 2. In minimally invasive technology: Laparoscopic surgery: Da Vinci robotic surgery, Grade IV laparoscopic surgery, and gasless laparoscopic surgery are performed. These procedures can treat various diseases, including benign and malignant gynecologic tumors, ectopic pregnancy, endometriosis, and infertility. Hysteroscopic surgery: Grade IV hysteroscopic surgery is performed to address problems such as heavy menstrual bleeding, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, embedded intrauterine contraceptive devices, endometrial polyps, submucosal uterine fibroids, uterine malformations, fallopian tube obstruction, and other problems. 3. Specialized diagnostic and treatment services: A specialty clinic for cervical diseases is available, and colposcopy and cervical conization using a LEEP device are performed to achieve early detection and early intervention for cervical diseases. Microsurgical tubal recanalization is performed to help patients with infertility and patients who require renewed fertility after tubal ligation achieve their reproductive goals. Vaginal hysterectomy is performed, including for uterine prolapse and non-prolapsed uteri; it requires no abdominal surgical incision, causes less trauma, and results in fewer postoperative complications. For uterine fibroids, ultrasound-guided interventional uterine artery occlusion is performed, avoiding the pain of incision-based surgery and shortening the hospital stay. For functional uterine bleeding, amenorrhea, infertility, menopausal syndrome, and endometriosis, individualized comprehensive endocrine management is provided. Chronic pelvic inflammatory disease is treated through an integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine approach, with significant clinical effects. A specialty clinic for pelvic floor dysfunction is available, providing conservative and surgical treatment for pelvic floor diseases and safeguarding women’s pelvic floor health. (II) Obstetrics is a key specialty included in Xiamen’s plan. It undertakes the referral and treatment of critically ill pregnant and postpartum women from Xiamen and surrounding areas. The volumes of outpatient visits, hospitalizations, and deliveries continue to increase. More than 80% of the pregnant and postpartum women seen by the department are high-risk, and more than 200 cases of critically ill pregnant and postpartum women are successfully rescued each year. Obstetrics has extensive experience in the treatment of obstetric emergencies and critical illnesses. It has successfully treated large numbers of critical cases involving severe hypertension complicating pregnancy, acute fatty liver of pregnancy, severe liver disease, cerebral hemorrhage complicating pregnancy, various types of heart disease complicating pregnancy, chronic myeloid leukemia, aplastic anemia, pernicious placenta previa, amniotic fluid embolism, and disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). In particular, for obstetric DIC, it has developed mature and standardized diagnostic and treatment protocols capable of managing various complex pregnancy-related comorbidities and complications rapidly and precisely. An obstetric genetic counseling clinic is available. The department continuously improves its prenatal screening capabilities, lays a solid foundation for establishing a prenatal diagnosis center, continuously optimizes diagnostic and treatment processes, and advances the standardized and regulated management of obstetric medical quality. As part of one of the first Baby-Friendly Hospitals to pass evaluation by the World Health Organization, the department strongly advocates breastfeeding. To improve the childbirth experience and encourage vaginal delivery, it offers services including painless childbirth, doula-supported childbirth, management of positions during labor, and new noninvasive methods of assisting childbirth, effectively reducing the cesarean section rate. It also provides specialized services including newborn hearing screening, screening for inherited metabolic diseases in newborns, neonatal touch and massage, and newborn swimming, comprehensively safeguarding the health of mothers and infants. 【Expert Team】The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has a total of 46 physicians, including 4 doctoral degree holders and 31 master’s degree holders.
