Cardiovascular Medicine Ward 1
At present, Cardiology Ward 1 of Peking University Shenzhen Hospital has 1 inpatient ward and 1 monitoring unit, with 35 beds actually in operation and 10 CCU monitoring beds. It specializes in the interventional treatment of coronary heart disease, arrhythmias, and congenital heart disease, as well as in the treatment of viral myocarditis and dilated cardiomyopathy. In addition to a cardiology specialist outpatient clinic and a general outpatient clinic, it also operates specialty clinics for follow-up after interventional treatment of coronary heart disease, pacemakers, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, arrhythmias, and other conditions. It sees 40,000 outpatient visits each year and admits more than 2,000 inpatients annually. In the area of interventional diagnosis and treatment of coronary heart disease, transradial coronary angiography is performed for patients, helping address the difficulty of hospitalization and the high cost of medical care. Since 2003, a “green channel” has been established for emergency interventional treatment and rescue of patients with acute myocardial infarction; about 110 emergency interventional treatments for acute myocardial infarction are completed each year, saving the lives of a large number of patients with acute myocardial infarction. Extensive experience has been accumulated in technically demanding interventional procedures such as intervention for chronic total occlusion lesions and left main coronary artery intervention. More than 400 coronary interventions are performed per year, with a success rate of over 98%; the complexity of the cases and the treatment outcomes have been recognized by peers in China and abroad. In intracardiac electrophysiology and pacing, advanced equipment such as the Pruka700 and SIEMENS multichannel electrophysiology recording systems is used. Nearly 100 cardiac electrophysiology and radiofrequency ablation procedures for tachyarrhythmias are completed each year, with a high success rate and few treatment-related complications. The Department of Cardiology of Peking University Hospital began implanting artificial cardiac pacemakers in 2001; to date, nearly 100 artificial cardiac pacemakers of various types have been implanted, providing extensive experience in implantation and follow-up. In recent years, 50 devices have been implanted annually, and physiological cardiac pacing accounts for more than 40%. In recent years, it has actively undertaken work involving automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD), biventricular synchronized pacing for the treatment of heart failure (CRT), and cardiac pacing for the treatment of vasovagal syncope. The traditional treatment for congenital heart disease is open-chest surgery, which is highly traumatic and causes considerable suffering to patients, especially adolescents and children. Peking University Hospital performs transcatheter closure of atrial septal defects, ventricular septal defects, and patent ductus arteriosus, as well as treatment of complex congenital heart disease. These procedures cause little trauma and allow rapid recovery, and have been welcomed by patients and their families.
