Minimally Invasive and Interventional Department
I. Basic Information About the Department The Minimally Invasive Interventional Department is a key clinical specialty in Guangdong Province; a key medical discipline in Shenzhen; a clinical base for standardized residency training in Guangdong Province; a master's degree-granting site for Peking University Health Science Center, Shantou University Medical College, and others; a national drug clinical trial specialty; a deputy chair institution of the Ministry of Science and Technology Innovation Alliance for Minimally Invasive Tumor Treatment Technology; a deputy chair institution of the Tumor Palliative Care Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association; a standing committee institution of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association for minimally invasive tumor treatment; and a participating institution in formulating national treatment standards for individual tumor diseases. The main diagnostic and treatment scope of the Minimally Invasive Interventional Department is minimally invasive interventional treatment for various tumors and vascular diseases. The specialty has a complete range of services, including specialized outpatient clinics for tumors and vascular diseases, an independent inpatient ward, a DSA treatment room, a CT treatment room, and others. The ward has 40 open beds, including one resuscitation ward with two beds. The department is equipped with a digital subtraction angiography machine (DSA), a computed tomography system (CT), a tumor radiofrequency ablation treatment system, a tumor microwave ablation treatment system, a tumor photodynamic therapy system, and other equipment. It operates a tumor minimally invasive intervention outpatient clinic, a specialized minimally invasive intervention clinic for liver cancer, and a specialized minimally invasive intervention clinic for lung cancer. The department has 9 staff physicians, including 6 with senior professional titles and 3 with doctoral degrees. It has 10 staff nurses, including 1 with a senior professional title. A total of 15 people have attended national or provincial/municipal drug clinical trial training courses and obtained GCP certificates. II. Scope of Diagnosis and Treatment The malignant tumors diagnosed and treated by the Minimally Invasive Interventional Department mainly include digestive system tumors, such as liver cancer, esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer, and colorectal cancer; thoracic tumors, such as lung cancer, breast cancer, and mediastinal tumors; genitourinary system tumors, such as renal cancer, bladder cancer, cervical cancer, and ovarian cancer; and head and neck tumors, such as nasopharyngeal cancer, laryngeal cancer, and thyroid cancer. The main benign tumors include uterine fibroids, hepatic cavernous hemangioma, and various cysts. The main diagnostic and treatment techniques include percutaneous needle biopsy, angiography, infusion port and arterial pump implantation, arterial infusion and embolization, percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage, radiofrequency ablation, photodynamic therapy, radioactive seed implantation, bone cement vertebroplasty, metallic stent placement, and minimally invasive treatment of cancer pain. The vascular diseases diagnosed and treated by the Minimally Invasive Interventional Department include vascular stenosis, vascular occlusion, thrombosis, and hemorrhage in blood vessels in other parts of the body and organs, excluding the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular systems. Common diseases include subclavian artery stenosis, carotid artery stenosis, renal artery stenosis, and arterial stenosis of the extremities; deep vein thrombosis of the lower limbs; and bleeding from the respiratory tract, digestive tract, and urinary tract. The diagnostic and treatment techniques include venous thrombus aspiration, endovascular thrombolysis for deep vein thrombosis, inferior vena cava filter placement, endovascular thrombolysis for arterial thrombosis, balloon dilation for arterial stenosis, arterial stent placement, embolization for bleeding caused by ruptured visceral vessels, and portosystemic shunt surgery. Among these, radiofrequency ablation for lung cancer and photodynamic therapy for esophageal cancer and rectal cancer have reached a leading level in China, while multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment of liver cancer, lung cancer, and digestive tract tumors, primarily based on minimally invasive intervention, has reached an advanced level in China.
