Special Consultation Geriatrics Department
The Special Care Ward and the Department of Geriatrics are among Shenzhen’s important bases for cadre health care, undertaking medical and health-care duties for central, provincial, municipal, and department- and bureau-level leaders. The patients primarily admitted are health-care beneficiaries, foreign guests, and patients with special needs. The department has successfully completed various important cadre health-care and special-needs medical assignments and has repeatedly received high praise from central, provincial, and municipal leaders. It also operates a geriatrics outpatient clinic, making medical care more convenient for elderly patients. The ward has a high-level, highly qualified team of medical experts and key personnel. It currently has 6 chief physicians, 3 deputy chief physicians, 2 attending physicians, and 1 resident physician, covering neurology, cardiovascular medicine, respiratory medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology, and other specialties. It also has an expert panel composed of professors from all specialties throughout the hospital, ensuring that patients receive high-quality, standardized, specialized, and appropriate examinations, diagnoses, and treatments. The nurses have excellent technical skills and provide attentive service. They carefully listen to patients’ opinions regarding examinations, diagnoses, treatment, nursing, and daily-life services. On the basis of adhering to “standardization” and “professionalism,” they provide “individualized” and “refined” services, further extending medical services to regular follow-up visits after discharge, as well as comprehensive guidance on matters concerning medications, diet, exercise, and other precautions. This fully embodies humanistic care, and the ward is a demonstration unit of the Shenzhen Municipal Health, Population and Family Planning Commission’s “Demonstration Post for Building Harmonious Doctor-Patient Relationships.” The ward has comprehensive medical facilities. In addition to premium hospital beds and the routine medical instruments found in ordinary wards, it is also equipped with an advanced central monitoring system, dynamic electrocardiography, and a dynamic blood-pressure monitor, facilitating the observation, examination, and management of patients’ conditions. The ward has a beautiful environment and an elegant style. It offers rooms of various types, including single rooms, double rooms, and suites. Daily-life facilities are complete, including telephones, televisions, refrigerators, microwave ovens, sofas, caregiver beds, and work desks, and assistance can be provided with relevant business matters and personal-life affairs. The department emphasizes the comprehensive development of medical care, education, and research. Over the past 3 years, it has published a total of 14 professional papers in national- and provincial-level journals, led 3 municipal-level scientific research projects, enrolled 3 master’s students, and trained 57 physicians in standardized general-practice training. A total of 5 physicians and 4 nurses have been sent to the United States, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, Beijing, Guangzhou, and other places for further study. It is the chairing institution of the Geriatrics Physicians Branch of the Shenzhen Medical Doctors Association, the General Practitioner Training Base of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, the General Practitioner Faculty Training Base of Guangdong Province, the Practical Training Base for Specialist Nurses in Geriatric Nursing, and the Shenzhen Cadre Health-Care Base. As the chairing institution of the Geriatrics Physicians Branch of the Shenzhen Medical Doctors Association, our department founded the Shenzhen Geriatrics Forum, which has now been held three times. It has also organized 2 Guangdong Province continuing-education programs. These activities have greatly promoted academic exchange in geriatric medicine throughout the city and raised the professional standard of geriatric medicine across the city. Our department is the General Practitioner Training Base of the National Health and Family Planning Commission and the General Practitioner Faculty Training Base of Guangdong Province. In recent years, the development of general practice and the training of general practitioners have received great attention. In recent years, our hospital has enrolled a total of 57 physicians in standardized general-practice training, held provincial- and municipal-level general-practitioner faculty training classes (4 sessions have already been held), and organized continuing-education programs in general practice, training a large number of highly qualified general-practice teachers and competent general practitioners for the city. As one of Shenzhen’s important cadre health-care bases, our VIP ward undertakes the medical and health-care duties of central, provincial, municipal, and department- and bureau-level leading cadres, while also being responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses among senior executives of major enterprises and foreign guests.
