Reproductive Medicine
The Center for Reproductive Medicine of Peking University Shenzhen Hospital was established in 2000. It was one of the first centers in Guangdong Province to carry out IVF technology, and the first center in Shenzhen to carry out IVF technology and third-generation IVF technology. It was approved for the Shenzhen Medical and Health “Three Famous” Project and introduced the Female Reproductive Health and Fertility Preservation Research Team led by Academician Qiao Jie of the Reproductive Medicine Department of Peking University Third Hospital. In 2018, the Center took the lead in establishing the Shenzhen Reproductive Medicine Specialty Alliance. Over more than 20 years, the Center has repeatedly been recognized as a Guangdong Province specialty with distinctive characteristics, a Shenzhen brand discipline, a Shenzhen key medical specialty, and others. The Center’s outpatient department includes reproductive gynecology, reproductive andrology, an operating room, and a day ward. The Center’s laboratories include an artificial insemination by husband (AIH) laboratory, an embryo culture (IVF) laboratory, a third-generation IVF (PGT) laboratory, an andrology laboratory, and a research laboratory. There are currently 55 professional and technical staff members, including 20 clinical physicians, 15 laboratory technicians, 15 nursing staff members, and 5 research personnel; 17 hold doctoral degrees and 16 hold master’s degrees. Over the past 3 years, the average annual outpatient volume has exceeded 150,000 visits, and there have been more than 7,000 IVF-assisted reproduction cycles. The laboratory has advanced equipment worth nearly 20 million yuan, mainly including: an Astec-ICSI two-person workstation, a mobile IVF workstation, an inverted microscope and micromanipulation system, a time-lapse embryo detection and analysis system, a genetics workstation, a spindle observation instrument, a cell electrofusion instrument, embryo incubators, storage liquid-nitrogen tanks, and a live-cell workstation, among others. The department’s technical specialties and services: intrauterine insemination, in vitro fertilization–embryo transfer, intracytoplasmic sperm injection, frozen-thawed embryo transfer, preimplantation genetic testing, in vitro maturation culture of immature oocytes, assisted hatching, vitrification cryopreservation of oocytes and embryos, and cryopreservation of sperm and ovarian tissue. Andrology surgeries: testicular biopsy, microsurgical testicular sperm extraction, vasovasostomy, vasoepididymostomy, seminal vesicle exploration, microsurgical varicocelectomy, and many other procedures. 1、Preimplantation genetic diagnosis technology: It can identify the balanced-translocation carrier status of embryos and block the transmission of balanced chromosomal translocations to offspring. It can block the transmission to offspring of familial thalassemia, hereditary deafness, polycystic kidney disease, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), and thousands of other genetic diseases. 2、Fertility preservation technology: Cryopreservation of ovarian tissue, oocytes, and embryos can effectively address fertility problems in cancer patients after chemotherapy or radiotherapy; 3、Technology for detecting endometrial receptivity during the embryo implantation window and microorganisms in the intrauterine microbiota: It provides precise and effective diagnosis and treatment plans for difficult infertility and subfertility conditions such as recurrent implantation failure and recurrent miscarriage. The Center for Reproductive Medicine integrates medical care, education, and research. It serves as a Peking University postdoctoral training workstation and a doctoral and master’s degree program in reproductive endocrinology, and also serves as a master’s degree program for Shantou University Medical College and Anhui Medical University. It has trained and supplied a large number of professional personnel for the field of reproductive medicine. It has successively undertaken more than ten research projects, including projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Guangdong Natural Science Foundation, the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, the China Doctoral Program Fund, the Guangdong Medical Research Fund, and key projects of the Shenzhen Science and Technology Bureau. It has successfully completed various diagnostic and treatment services, new technologies and projects, quality indicators, talent training, and scientific research work. With the strong support of the hospital, the Center for Reproductive Medicine will build a diagnosis and treatment platform for infertility and reproductive genetics. Upholding the principle of “putting people first, placing patients above all, and providing safe, high-quality, efficient, and satisfactory medical-grade nursing services,” it will fully leverage its capacity for collaborative innovation, accelerate the improvement of the overall service level of reproductive medicine specialties in Shenzhen, break down disciplinary and field barriers, conduct high-quality clinical diagnosis, treatment, and research focused on diseases related to reproductive health, reduce infertility and birth-defect rates in Shenzhen and surrounding areas, increase the assisted-conception success rate for patients with difficult infertility at the Center, and continue to play a leading role in the discipline in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
