The discipline’s main research directions are anesthesia and brain science, perioperative organ protection, and anesthesia and patient prognosis. The department has successively received funding for more than 20 research projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, and provincial- and municipal-level scientific research programs. Department members have published more than 40 academic papers as first and corresponding authors in mainstream anesthesiology journals such as Anesthesiology, Journal of Clinical Anesthesia, and Anesthesia &Analgesia, as well as in SCI-indexed publications such as Journal of Neuroscience and Cell death & disease; they have also participated in multicenter clinical research and published papers as co-authors in the journal Lancet. Director Zheng Limin, founder of the discipline, successively served as chief editor of the first and second editions of Anesthesia for Uncommon Diseases, the only monograph in China on anesthesia and perioperative management for patients with concomitant rare and uncommon diseases.
