The academic leader and department director is a member of the National Professional Committee for Severe Hepatitis and Liver Failure and chair of the Difficult Liver Disease Group of the Liver Disease Specialist Physicians Branch of the Guangdong Medical Doctors Association. Clinically, our department has advanced equipment, including a “non-biological artificial liver,” liver reserve function testing, non-invasive liver fibrosis scanning, body-fat measurement, and more. Our department offers specialized outpatient clinics for hepatitis and cirrhosis, fatty liver, pregnancy with hepatitis B, vaccination counseling for the prevention of viral hepatitis, joint expert consultations for space-occupying liver lesions, and post-liver-transplant follow-up and management. It has long provided clinical diagnosis and treatment for various types of acute/chronic hepatitis, artificial-liver treatment for liver failure, investigation of the causes of abnormal liver function, investigation of the cause of jaundice, differential diagnosis of the nature of space-occupying liver lesions, investigation of the cause of fever, investigation of the cause of diarrhea, human parasitic diseases, intestinal infectious diseases and other infectious diseases, emerging infectious diseases, and more, and is an important clinical medical center for infectious diseases in the province. In particular, for difficult and complex liver diseases, ultrasound-guided liver biopsy can be performed to clarify liver pathology, followed by multidisciplinary alliance consultations for difficult liver diseases. For patients with liver failure and other acute, critical conditions, effective active rescue treatment using artificial liver therapy can be provided. In the future, the Department of Infectious Diseases will establish first-class specialty platforms such as a “Diagnosis, Treatment and Research Center for Difficult Liver Diseases” and a “Clinical Translational Diagnosis and Treatment Platform for Liver Fibrosis,” develop regional influence in Shenzhen and surrounding cities and provinces, and strive to build this department into a key infectious diseases specialty in Guangdong Province.
