The Department of Oral Implantology of the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital, School of Medicine, Nanjing University (Nanjing Stomatological Hospital) was established in 1995 and is one of the earliest specialized oral implantology departments established in China; it is a key clinical specialty in Jiangsu Province. The department is equipped with 8 dental chairs and 4 dedicated operating rooms. It currently has 2 chief physicians, 3 deputy chief physicians, 5 attending physicians, and 1 physician; among them, 8 hold doctoral degrees and 2 hold master's degrees, and they have received formal professional training in implantology in the United States, Switzerland, Germany, Hong Kong, Sweden, and elsewhere. The department director, Tong Xin, is currently a standing committee member of the Professional Committee of Oral Implantology of the Chinese Stomatological Association, a youth committee member of the Professional Committee of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, chair of the Professional Committee of Oral Implantology of the Jiangsu Stomatological Association, an academic leader among young and middle-aged professionals in Nanjing, and a master's supervisor at Nanjing University. Implant prostheses are currently the best way to restore missing teeth and are known as the third set of teeth for humans. They have advantages that cannot be matched by other restorative methods and are increasingly favored by patients. The department has implant motors from contemporary internationally renowned brands, a new ultrasonic bone-cutting unit, and an implant mobility measuring device; all of these provide strong guarantees for the precision, safety, and reliability of surgery. For patients with insufficient bone volume, the department widely performs various bone-grafting techniques, including guided bone regeneration, bone splitting, maxillary sinus elevation, onlay bone grafting, distraction osteogenesis, free iliac bone grafting, and functional reconstruction of the mandible using vascularized fibula. It also widely performs immediate implant placement, immediate restoration, full-mouth fixed restorations, and overdenture restorations. The department has introduced implants from a variety of renowned domestic and international systems, including Nobel (Sweden), Straumann (Switzerland), SPI (Switzerland), Bicon (United States), Bego (Germany), Dentium and Osstem (South Korea), as well as BLB and BaiKangTe (domestically produced), meeting the needs of patients at different levels. The department's technology is at a leading level in China. It has completed implant-supported rehabilitation for nearly 10,000 patients, with a cumulative survival rate of 98.2%, meeting international standards for oral implantology. In recent years, the department has actively developed a number of new technologies, including immediate implant placement and immediate restoration in the esthetic zone, full-mouth All-on-4 immediate implant placement and immediate restoration, the use of CGF to repair peri-implant bone defects, and zygomatic implant rehabilitation, reducing the impact of missing teeth on patients' work and daily lives. The Department of Oral Implantology has consistently adhered to the philosophy of putting quality first and service first, placing patients at the center, continually striving for improvement, and endeavoring to provide safe, high-quality services to the general patient population, bringing a high-quality life experience to patients with missing teeth.
