General Surgery Ward 4
The Fourth General Surgery Ward of the Second Hospital of Harbin Medical University, namely the Thyroid Surgery Ward, was established in 2006. It is the earliest specialized thyroid surgery ward in our province and a specialized thyroid tumor diagnosis and treatment center adhering to the diagnostic and treatment principles of standardization, individualization, precision, and minimally invasive care. It receives more than 50,000 outpatient visits annually and performs more than 3,000 surgeries. There are currently 11 doctors and 15 nurses, including 3 chief physicians, 7 associate chief physicians, and 1 attending physician; 1 chief nurse and 2 associate chief nurses; 2 doctoral supervisors and 6 master's supervisors. The ward director is Professor Shi Tiefeng, the chief surgical nurse is Wang Liping, and the head nurse of the ward is Wang Shujia.
Our department is the Training Base for Intraoperative Nerve Monitoring Technology for Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery of Heilongjiang Province and the Follow-up Workstation for Postoperative Thyroid Cancer of the Heilongjiang Medical Association. We currently routinely perform a variety of thyroid diagnostic and treatment procedures representing the advanced level in China: fine-needle aspiration of thyroid nodules, radical and extended radical thyroid cancer surgery, transaxillary endoscopic thyroid surgery, trans-thoracic-areolar endoscopic thyroid surgery, transoral endoscopic thyroid surgery, robotic thyroid surgery (da Vinci), thyroid and parathyroid ablation, and others.
With the advancement and development of technical expertise and the improvement and updating of treatment concepts, our department has now established a comprehensive treatment system for the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid tumors, centered on surgery and assisted by multiple disciplines. It emphasizes standardization, individualization, and functional preservation. Based on various factors, including the patient’s age and the size of the primary tumor, we formulate the most suitable multidisciplinary treatment plan for each patient. Combined with first-class surgical expertise and advanced technical equipment, this has truly enabled the department to perform a large number of surgeries while patients experience few complications and rapid recovery. The department has received high praise from patients and generated positive social benefits. Under the leadership of Professor Shi Tiefeng, the ward director, we strive for progress and have the courage to innovate, advancing from an advanced domestic level toward international first-class standards.
