Introduction to the Department of Liver, Spleen and Stomach Diseases (September 2014) I. Department Overview The Department of Liver, Spleen and Stomach Diseases (formerly the Department of Gastroenterology) of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine was established in 2006. Its current director is Director Yang Shenqiu, and the department has 8 physicians. Its specialist staffing structure is reasonable, comprising 1 chief physician, 2 deputy chief physicians, 4 attending physicians, and 1 resident physician. There are 2 doctoral degree holders and 5 master's degree holders. It currently has 1 inpatient ward, 1 specialist outpatient clinic, 1 endoscopy room, 3 general outpatient clinics, and 32 authorized beds. It has received numerous honors, including "Key Discipline of Liver and Gallbladder Diseases of the Heilongjiang Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine" and "Provincial Youth Civilization Unit." In 2008, in order to study and organize Teacher Zhang Jinliang's clinical academic thought and clinical experience, and through Elder Zhang's role of "transmission, assistance, and guidance," it cultivated a team of physicians with a high level of clinical expertise and strong capabilities in traditional Chinese medicine and established the "Zhang Jinliang Liver and Gallbladder Disease Studio." In 2013, the studio was named one of 144 National Famous Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner Studios. Over the years, the Department of Liver, Spleen and Stomach Diseases has persisted in innovating and developing through inheritance, fully leveraging the distinctive advantages of traditional Chinese medicine, and emphasizing the mutual promotion of scientific research and clinical practice. It has completed dozens of national-level and provincial bureau-level research projects. Among them, "Research on the Formulation of Bingganfu Capsules, a New Drug for Treating Hepatitis C," designed and organized by the department's director Yang Shenqiu, received the Third Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of Harbin City. II. Scope of Diagnosis and Treatment The department is equipped with a variety of advanced new technologies and therapies, including electronic gastroscopes, electronic colonoscopes, a Helicobacter pylori (HP) testing device, a microwave therapy device, a moxibustion device, a fatty liver treatment device, a medium- and low-frequency therapy device, and a Dalishen liver disease treatment device. It can accurately diagnose, analyze, and treat various digestive system diseases, including chronic gastritis, peptic ulcers, fatty liver, ulcerative colitis, and irritable bowel syndrome. It has reached an advanced level within China in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of various digestive system diseases. It also combines traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese herbal medicines with modern medical technologies, and has accumulated rich clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas, as well as difficult and critical conditions. With its unique treatment methods and favorable therapeutic results, it has earned the praise of numerous patients. III. Medical Characteristics Over the years, under the leadership of Director Yang Shenqiu, the Department of Liver, Spleen and Stomach Diseases of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine has been dedicated to the clinical treatment and scientific research of liver, gallbladder, stomach, and intestinal diseases, accumulating rich clinical experience. Through extensive clinical analysis, research, and exploration of liver, gallbladder, stomach, and intestinal diseases, it has summarized rigorous and effective diagnostic and treatment plans. It has also inherited Professor Zhang Jinliang's experience in treating liver diseases with distinctive formula combinations, adopting a combination of the whole and the local, the macro and the micro, and traditional Chinese and Western medicine; proceeding from the exterior to the interior and from the latent to the deep; and conducting an in-depth and thorough analysis of the cause, development, and outcome of each disease. It achieves coordinated and unified treatment tailored to the person, disease, symptoms, and timing, and extensive clinical practice has demonstrated that its therapeutic effects are outstanding and definite. 1. From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, it has effectively addressed problems such as chronic liver, gallbladder, stomach, and intestinal diseases that remain unresolved after prolonged treatment and have high recurrence rates. Through Chinese herbal formulas, combined with Yu's scalp acupuncture and Sun's abdominal acupuncture, as well as microwave therapy, a liver disease treatment device, and medium- and low-frequency therapy devices, it regulates the functions of the zang-fu organs and ultimately achieves natural recovery from disease. This changes the disadvantages of traditional treatment, which takes a long time and is prone to recurrence, and has earned the trust and praise of numerous patients. 2. It independently developed the "Three Methods for Treating the Stomach" and the "Three Unique Methods for Treating the Intestines." Based on the causes and mechanisms of gastrointestinal diseases, individual differences, and analysis and summarization of symptoms, significant results have been achieved after treating a considerable number of patients with superficial gastritis, atrophic gastritis, erosive gastritis, gastric ulcers, duodenal bulb ulcers, habitual constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, proctitis, and other conditions. 3. Treatment of fatty liver. Taking "cut off the source, clear the flow, and restore balance" as the treatment principle, it has formulated its own purely traditional Chinese medicine empirical formulas, including "Tiaozhi Decoction," "Shugan Powder," and "Ruangan Powder," to clear the liver, transform fat, and expel turbidity, and to tonify the kidneys, strengthen the spleen, and dispel dampness. Acupuncture and moxibustion, Chinese herbal medicine iontophoresis, and a liver disease treatment device are used as adjuncts. Traditional Chinese medicine meridian theory is combined with the delivery of Chinese herbal medicines through acupoints, promoting the breakdown and metabolism of liver fat, reducing inflammation, lowering blood lipids, and thereby improving liver function, ultimately treating fatty liver. 4. After years of clinical exploration, while following the theoretical foundation of pattern differentiation in traditional Chinese medicine and drawing fully on modern pharmacological research, it has summarized the optimal combinations of medicines for each condition. Examples include "Qingjie Powder," "Fuzheng Powder," "Danhuang Powder," and "Jiedu Powder." Different medicine groups are selected clinically according to differences in patients' symptoms. On the basis of Chinese herbal treatment, the department uses auricular point seed embedding, moxibustion, and a medium- and low-frequency laser therapy device for comprehensive treatment, dynamically observes the patient's condition, and adapts flexibly to circumstances. Extensive clinical practice has demonstrated significant effects.
