Gynaecology
The Department of Gynecology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University is a key specialty in Hainan Province. It is a department integrating clinical care, education, research, and medical services, and has influence within the province. The department is a national standardized training base for resident physicians and specialists, is authorized to grant master's degrees in obstetrics and gynecology, and is currently applying for authorization to grant doctoral degrees. The department puts patients at the center and quality at the core, implements refined scientific management, follows international diagnosis and treatment standards, emphasizes evidence-based medicine, carefully formulates individualized treatment plans, and provides patients with humanistic care, high-quality nursing, and high-quality medical services.
The ward has 53 beds, providing patients with a good and comfortable medical environment. The department currently has 31 medical and nursing staff members, including 7 chief physicians, 2 deputy chief physicians, 6 master's degree holders, 1 deputy chief nurse, and 8 nurses-in-charge.
The department comprises four subspecialties: the gynecologic oncology ward, general gynecology ward, gynecologic endocrinology ward, and family planning. The department can independently, systematically, and standardly diagnose and treat gynecological diseases specified in clinical diagnosis and treatment guidelines. It has a strong comprehensive diagnostic and treatment capacity for difficult gynecological diseases and critically ill patients, can independently perform routine and highly complex gynecological surgeries, and has distinctive diagnostic and treatment features in minimally invasive surgery for benign and malignant gynecological tumors. The department admits more than 1,000 inpatients annually and performs more than 1,000 inpatient operations annually. The average bed utilization rate is 100%, the average length of hospital stay is 8.8 days, the concordance rate between clinical and pathological diagnoses exceeds 97%, and the rescue success rate for critically ill patients is nearly 100%. The department also undertakes the guidance, consultation, and counterpart-support work for difficult and critical gynecological conditions and complex surgeries within the province. At the same time, the department undertakes and completes multiple scientific research projects, including projects funded by the Provincial Natural Science Fund and scientific research projects of the Health Department, and has completed research on multiple national- and provincial-level clinical drug trials.
The department's diagnostic and treatment specialties:
1. Minimally invasive surgery centered on endoscopic technology. At present, the gynecological endoscopy level of our hospital has reached an advanced domestic level. We have performed laparoscopic pelvic lymph node dissection, laparoscopic radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer, staging surgery for endometrial cancer and ovarian cancer, excision of deep endometriotic lesions, hysteroscopic elect resection of submucosal fibroids, hysteroscopic elect resection of intrauterine adhesions, and hysteroscopic resection of the uterine septum. Gynecologic laparoscopic and hysteroscopic minimally invasive surgery causes less trauma and enables faster recovery, benefiting patients and producing good social benefits. At present, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgeries account for more than 60% of the department's surgeries.
2. Standardized and diversified tumor diagnosis and treatment. For the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer, standardized screening and a three-step diagnosis, management, and treatment procedure for precancerous lesions are provided. Radical total hysterectomy and pelvic lymph node dissection are now performed in a standardized manner. The department performs minimally invasive surgery for malignant tumors, surgery for vulvar cancer, adjuvant chemotherapy for advanced malignant tumors, and the diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of gestational trophoblastic tumors. On the basis of increasing the 5-year survival rate and cure rate of patients with gynecological malignant tumors, the department improves patients' quality of life. In recent years, young patients with early malignant tumors who wish to preserve fertility have undergone fertility-preserving surgery and chemotherapy that protects ovarian function. Close follow-up is conducted after treatment, and most patients successfully conceive and complete childbearing.
3. Gynecologic oncology has formed a multidisciplinary treatment model (MDT) with the departments of radiology, eye ultrasound, pathology, anesthesiology, internal medicine, surgery, and other related departments. Together, they formulate scientific, reasonable, and standardized treatment plans, prolong patients' survival, improve quality of life, achieve the maximum integration of disciplinary resources and strengths, improve the quality of diagnosis and treatment, reduce medical costs, improve patients' medical experience, and more effectively promote discipline development.
4. Diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction. Systematic diagnosis and treatment from postpartum rehabilitation to functional exercise and surgical treatment have been implemented. Standardized diagnosis and treatment of female pelvic floor dysfunction are provided, POP-Q classification is performed, and vaginal total hysterectomy and anterior and posterior vaginal wall repair are carried out. Gynecology will serve patients wholeheartedly with superb medical skills and high-quality nursing!
