Beijing United Family Hospital’s Pathology and Clinical Laboratory Center consists of the Department of Pathology, the Laboratory Department, and the Blood Bank. The Pathology and Clinical Laboratory Center is equipped with modern equipment and provides patients with fast, accurate results. The Laboratory Department and Blood Bank provide services 24 hours a day; the Department of Pathology provides Chinese-English bilingual diagnostic services for routine pathology 5 days a week and for frozen sections of all systems 7 days a week. Beijing United Family Hospital’s Pathology and Clinical Laboratory Center is a hospital laboratory in which the Laboratory Department, Blood Bank, and Department of Pathology have all been comprehensively accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). This accreditation demonstrates that the work and test results of the United Family testing center meet the standards of an internationally authoritative organization and promotes continuous quality improvement in the departments. The Pathology and Clinical Laboratory Center currently has three CAP-accredited international reviewers, who have reviewed dozens of laboratories in Asia over the past five years. The Pathology and Clinical Laboratory Center also accepts testing specimens referred by other clinics, such as embassy clinics. If necessary, we can arrange to collect the specimens you need tested from contracted partner clinics.
The Laboratory Department was established in 1997 and first received CAP accreditation in 2007. Its services now cover hematology, immunology, biochemistry, body fluids, microbiology, blood banking, molecular biology, and other tests. Results for most tests can be obtained within a few hours. In addition, Beijing United Family Hospital maintains close cooperation with the local blood center and frequently organizes community blood donation drives to ensure an adequate blood supply. To meet the needs of emergency treatment for patients with rare blood types, we also maintain a list of rare-blood-type donors. We can organize dedicated blood donation drives for patients and collect urgently needed rare-type blood to ensure that patients receive timely and safe medical treatment or surgery.
The Department of Pathology was established in 2012. Experienced certified physicians and technicians provide a range of rapid, accurate diagnostic services and multidisciplinary expert consultations. We also provide cytology diagnostic services, including thin-layer cytology smears in obstetrics and gynecology and testing of non-gynecological specimens such as sputum, urine, and various body fluids.
All reports on resected malignant tumors are prepared in accordance with the CAP guidelines for cancer reporting. The Department of Pathology also provides pathological consultation services for surgical pathology and cytology. We have established strong cooperation in teleconsultation with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), among others.
Laboratory Services
Our laboratory can accept specimens from other hospitals or clinics. If you need to learn the test results as soon as possible, laboratory reports can be sent by fax. If needed, we can arrange for a driver to collect specimens from your clinic.

Beijing United Family Hospital Testing Center
Beijing United Family Hospital Testing Center provides patients with high-quality services 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. The Center’s histopathology, clinical laboratory, and blood bank services have dual accreditation from the Joint Commission International (JCI) and the College of American Pathologists (CAP), and the Center participates in international and domestic external quality assessment programs to ensure the accuracy of testing.
The United Family Hospital Testing Center can provide more than 1,000 tests to meet the medical care and treatment needs of foreign and local physicians for their patients. The Clinical Laboratory Center has new fully automated testing instruments to ensure that results are issued on time. We provide 7X24-hour services in hematology, clinical biochemistry, microbiology, parasitology, immunology, blood banking, toxicology, and genetic testing.
The United Family Hospital Histopathology Laboratory was established in 2012. The histopathology laboratory is staffed by experienced certified physicians and technicians from Switzerland and China and provides a variety of rapid, accurate diagnostic services and multidisciplinary expert consultation services. The scope of examination ranges from small biopsies to large resection specimens, such as brain tumors, intestinal cancer, or breast cancer. We also provide cytology diagnostic services, including thin-layer cytology smears in obstetrics and gynecology and testing of non-gynecological specimens such as sputum, urine, and various body fluids. The Pathology Laboratory provides diagnostic services for frozen sections of all systems 7 days a week, and all reports are bilingual in Chinese and English. In addition, the laboratory provides pathological consultation services for surgical pathology and cytology and has begun strong cooperation with the University of California, Los Angeles, in teleconsultation.
United Family Hospital has an independent blood bank to meet emergency transfusion needs. We also maintain close contact and cooperation with the local blood center and organize blood donation drives regularly to ensure an adequate blood supply. The Blood Bank keeps a list of rare-blood-type donors for use in emergencies. The blood donation drives jointly organized by United Family Hospital and the Beijing Blood Center have attracted more than 1,000 participants in total, of whom 10% were donors with Rh-negative blood types.
