Surgical experts at Beijing United Family Hospital directly participate in the diagnosis and treatment of patients’ diseases. They work closely with general practitioners or physicians in other specialties to develop diagnosis and treatment plans for patients.
Beijing United Family Hospital has six operating rooms, of which Operating Room No. 1 is a hybrid (Hybrid) operating room equipped with intraoperative angiography and intraoperative CT, allowing surgical procedures, interventional imaging examinations, and treatment to be performed simultaneously. The intensive care unit is equipped with monitoring systems and medical facilities.
The operating rooms at Beijing United Family Hospital can provide a variety of surgical services and offer patients appropriate surgical methods.
Our da Vinci Surgical Robot
In May 2015, in order to better serve patients, Beijing United Family Hospital introduced the da Vinci surgical robot (da Vinci Si) manufactured by Intuitive Surgical, Inc. of the United States, formally known as the “robotic-assisted endoscopic surgical operating system.”
What is the da Vinci surgical robot?
Doctors can perform minimally invasive surgery through endoscopy. Compared with open surgery, this causes less trauma to patients and allows faster recovery. In comparison, the da Vinci surgical robot provides doctors with a higher-level surgical platform, is suitable for complex and delicate surgical procedures, and can be used to treat a broader range of diseases. In particular, patients requiring elective surgery can communicate with their doctors about undergoing surgery using the da Vinci surgical robot to reduce the risks of side effects and complications.
Doctors only need to make several small incisions in the surgical area. The instruments can be operated quickly and accurately, significantly reducing the patient’s pain and blood loss and shortening recovery time. Through special lenses inserted into the human body, the operating doctor can see a high-definition, three-dimensional surgical field magnified 20 times, with an effect like direct vision in open surgery. The range of motion of the robotic arms is significantly increased, greatly enhancing the operating surgeon’s capabilities. In areas that cannot be reached by the human hand, the robotic arms can move flexibly through a 360-degree space, and the robotic arms are equipped with stabilizers, providing stability and precision that cannot be matched by human hands.
Overall, for patients, surgery performed using the da Vinci robot can relatively significantly reduce postoperative complications, injury, and blood loss, enable faster postoperative recovery, and relatively improve cosmetic outcomes. It can expand the applicable scope of surgery to a certain extent. For example, for certain elderly patients and high-risk patients, robotic surgery can avoid, to a certain extent, the trauma caused by open surgery. Nevertheless, this surgical method is not suitable for all patients. You are advised to communicate fully with your surgeon before surgery to understand its indications and risks.
Scope of application:
Our hospital’s specialists can use the da Vinci surgical robot to treat diseases in multiple departments, including Urology, Pediatric Surgery, Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Gastrointestinal Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Gynecology. It is especially suitable for diseases that have high requirements for minimally invasive techniques and for which conventional open surgery presents relatively greater risks and difficulty. The specific indications are as follows:
Urology: Benign and malignant tumors of the prostate, kidneys, and bladder, etc.
Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery: Hepatobiliary tumors, stones, pancreatic and duodenal tumors, etc.
Gastrointestinal Surgery: Common benign and malignant tumors such as gastric cancer and colorectal cancer
Gynecology: Uterine fibroids and other benign and malignant tumors of the uterus and adnexa
Cardiac Surgery: Coronary heart disease, congenital heart disease, valve repair and replacement, etc.
Thoracic Surgery: Lung cancer, mediastinal tumors, esophageal cancer, etc.
Pediatric Surgery: Common diseases in general surgery and urology
