Hand and Foot Microsurgery
The Hand and Foot Microsurgery Department of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University is a newly established department formed in 2022 with the recruitment of the team led by Professor Ding Xiaoheng, a nationally renowned expert. It is one of the six specialties of the Orthopedics Hospital, a national-level key specialty of our hospital. The department comprises three specialties: hand surgery, foot and ankle surgery, and microsurgical repair and reconstructive surgery. It currently has 44 beds. Since its establishment, with the strong support of the hospital and under the leadership of Professor Ding Xiaoheng, the academic leader, the department has carried out all diagnostic and treatment technologies in its professional fields, attracting patients from within and outside the province—particularly from the Jiaodong Peninsula region—with conditions related to hand surgery, foot and ankle surgery, and microsurgical repair and reconstructive surgery, and has earned an excellent reputation. The department performs more than 2,000 operations annually on average.
The Hand and Foot Microsurgery team currently comprises 10 physicians, including 1 chief physician, 1 associate chief physician, 4 attending physicians, and 4 resident physicians. It has a specialized rehabilitation room staffed by 1 specialized rehabilitation therapist. The talent structure is well balanced, and the professional scope is comprehensive. The main diagnostic and treatment services include replantation of severed fingers and limbs; replantation of amputated external organs such as the ears, nose, lips, scalp, and external genitalia; thumb and finger reconstruction; comprehensive microsurgical treatment of severe trauma to the extremities; late functional reconstruction after hand trauma; early- and late-stage treatment of peripheral nerve and brachial plexus injuries; flap surgery; correction of congenital deformities of the hands and feet; treatment of chronic wounds of the extremities and trunk; surgical treatment of acute and chronic lymphedema; microsurgical treatment of foot trauma; and correction of foot and ankle injuries, diseases, and deformities. In particular, the department is at an advanced national level—and in some areas at a nationally leading and internationally advanced level—in finger (limb) replantation, thumb and finger reconstruction, limb salvage for complex limb injuries, free transplantation of perforator flaps, and single-pedicle multilobed flaps.
